Linus: building a keyboard is too expensive

Also Linus: pays 120USD for a titanium case and got scammed into paying 70USD for cherry Mx brown switches...

You really need to discover some more switches, Linus.

Already built my own. Soldering really isn't hard with components this big. Just a little time consuming. It's a rewarding hobby for people who like to make useful things.

The tactility of MX Browns is like if you took an MX Red and put a small pebble in it.

For anyone wondering, the GK64 is not a well designed board. Adding arrow keys to the 60% layout makes for odd rows and key sizes (like the small r shift key). Also it has no pcb mountable stab holes for the Left shift. Also the left shift is 2u size, so again non standard. Also as Linus found out, if you're using a hot swap board... check the pins are straight first.

I love the way he just slides into the sponsor.

Putting in my input, without the RIDICULOUSLY PRICED case, various cherry springs, and getting non cherry switches; the price goes down to $130. Not any cheap budget keyboard for sure, but definitely lower than the one in this video. Also, you can get a kit of this keyboard with an aluminum case, cherry switches, and keycaps for $165. Just saying, this video doesn't serve justice for beginners with a under $100 price tag in mind.

Pandemic has actually brought building mechanical hobby keyboards into prominance. Linus needs to do an updated video about what is going on in this hobby in 2021.

I’ve watched this about 10 times and I’ve still never seen a custom keyboard built with cherry switches in any other video. I’ve always heard that they’re scratchy for the price and, quite frankly, I agree.

i've built once with GH60.
i think you will save more money if you use gateron switches, it's better than cherry. and you should not buy extras spring, it's not necessary since you bought cherry mx browns.
