When I was 10 years old, I was very interested in Cosmology and spent a lot of time thinking about it. One afternoon I was standing in my mothers kitchen and I noticed some drops of water on the kitchen bench. I wondered to myself, what if everything we knew about existed inside one of those many drops of water. I imagined each drop of water as representing a universe. Looking at the drops sepetated on the bench, I wondered about the possibility for an unlimited number of universes existing in an infinite void seperated my unimaginable distances. Now that I am 58, I enjoy hearing sceince slowly supporting the notion.

true story: Back in the 70's I dropped a hit of LSD and went to visit my friends Dave and Kathy. As we were talking, out of curiosity, I was trying yo see how long I could stretch/elongate my index finger. It appeared to me, in my altered state, that my finger appeared to extend to about 8 inches long. Then I stopped and my finger returned to it's normal size. Thinking this was a an hallucination I looked up to see Dave and Kathy looking at me with their jaws dropped. The Dave spoke up "How'd you do that?" To my shock they had also watched my finger grow. "Wait you saw that too????" I asked. To validate the experience I suggested an experiment I placed my fist at the end of a bureau with my finger pointing to one of a drawers knobs. I thought that if I really had made my finger grow then it should move closer to the knob and the distance between them will be reduced. So once again I tried to make my index finger grow. We all watched as once again my finger grew HOWEVER the finger did not get any closer to the knob. The only conclusion we could reach was the the illusion as caused by a bubble in reality. The distance between the finger and the knob were now distorted due to the surface of a reality bubble, a curvature, like a bubble, in the space my finger occupied.

As a weather guy I loved the last bit. My synoptic meteorology professor refused to accept 50% chance of anything as a forecast. You had to do either 40% or 60%. He also couldn't stand the use of the word "forcing" that you hear a lot in meteorology to describe basically the mechanisms of weather. He taught us it's a meaningless word that doesn't actually say anything about what's really going on. I share those 2 pet peeves to this day.

50% chance of rain means that the entire coverage area will or will not be rained on depending on slight but uncontrolable and unpredictable flucuations in the local atmosphere. Mostly its about the weight and spread of the water in the clouds and cloud coverage.
When the weight is over a certain limit and cloud cover is complete, the atmospheric flucuations will have minimal effect and the rain will push through. Thats 100 % coverage in the whole specific area. Even when you have 100% there are differences in the amount of water that falls in any specific spot. Who knows? Maybe one day they will be able to say, "it's going to rain everywhere except over NDT's house!"

I was told that the "50% chance of rain" thing is not a statistical precision of the forecast but basically the territory's coverage of rain. So when it is 90% or rain it means 90% of the area subject to the forecast will get rain.
