I followed your recipe except, I ran the sugar through the processor for 4 minutes rather than 2 and I had virtually no lumps. I baked for 40 minutes and let it stand upside down for 1 1/2 hrs. It came out tall, light and perfect! Your instructions were so clear and easy to follow. Keep up the great work!!!

My grandmother made the best angel food cakes. I remember her using a flat wire device, strung rather like a tennis racket to whip the whites in a big aluminum bowl. She did not use super fine
sugar. She gave hand written notes to my mother about how to make this cake which I have. My mother always used her Sunbeam mixer for this job and while her cakes are very good, they never
were quite as good as my grandmothers. We ate these cakes plain.

After trying to make them myself, using my mixer and not being totally pleased, I did one time whip the whites with a wire whisk by hand. That cake was the best I'd ever made.
There seems to be something VERY important about the whites and sugar combining VERY VERY slowly. Mixers just speed this process up to the detriment of the final result. At any rate the texture of this cake when made well by hand is not remotely like those from a mix or a bakery!

My grandmother always made a gold cake using the yolks left from the angel food cake. The two favorites of her two children.

When I was a small girl, I had this one year for my birthday cake! It had confetti sprinkles in the batter, raspberry glaze atop, and a big 4 candle on a big white pedestal cake stand. Made one as a test before making a requested one for a birthday, but your instructions and do's and don'ts made it super easy! A light, fluffy cloud of delicious cake the first try! And now I have one all to myself before I make another for the party 😇

I made it! I'm literally waiting for the cake too cool. Thank you for clear instructions. I always avoided making angel food cake because it seemed too fussy but it was not too hard at all

As a kid we played outside as much as possible, I remember though, if mom was making Angel food cake and we had to come in for something, we had strict orders not to run or jump in the house as the cake would fall and ´to get back outside ´ as soon as possible. 4 kids and angel food cake appeared at every birthday with 7 minute icing!

In England, superfine is called caster sugar. As for cake flour, I guess self raising would be OK, as at worst, it would make a very light and airy cake! Happy New Year John, and to your Hubby and gorgeous boys xxx

This receipe is spot on. I used 1 cup vs 1.75 cup and the sweetness was right for me.

This is one of my favorites. It is a childhood memory. It was my grandfather's absolute favorite, he loved it just bu it's self nothing on it. I use cool whip or cool whip cream cheese icing with a blueberry or strawberry compote or fresh berries. Any gathering we have, it's requested I bring lol. But I've never made it homemade. I've always used the box angle food cake or store bought. You have inspired me to try it from scratch. Thank you for sharing! 😊❤

I haven't had a homemade angel food cake in forever! I have been baking pound cakes for use with fresh berries and cream in summer, but I think it's time to switch it up ~ I love a baking challenge, and this is next on my list, but I already have everything for a Swiss cake roll ready for tomorrow for New Years Day dinner, ( using your recipe!)
