I am 70 yo. it's hard to watch these performers, host, writers, and others pass. they are like old friends that you grew up with. I watched some start their career and get better with time. Now I see them leave. Some of the most talented people I ever saw. May God bless and keep you all.

Bob Newhart was the best! I think his connection with people is he came across as just an average guy. He had some outstanding shows and he was just a very good comedian.

Rest in peace, James Earl Jones. Iconic voice.

Terrible to forget Shelley Duvall, an icon of the 70s and 80s. Someone in the comments points out they have only so much time, but someone else points out they have time for executives and producers, they can squeeze a few more seconds in for someone as accomplished and beloved as Duvall..

Sometimes when a person in the entertainment business dies close to the Emmys, they are often left out of the “In Memoriam” section. I was very pleased that they were able to include Phil Donahue, even if it did make me sad again…and James Earl Jones💔

I realized something as I was watching the pictures come up. I’ve watched many of them for most of my life. And so many are dying. I don’t think about when my time comes. But wow, that kinda opened my eyes. I said to myself, out loud, “Damn, I guess I am getting old”. I got over it and started this comment. I also realized that I have lived under a rock for the past year and a half. My husband passed and I can’t afford any type of tv or internet service. I only have unlimited data for my phone. I don’t have any type of news coverage, streaming or internet. I only find out about a celebrity passing by my oldest daughter sending me a screenshot of the announcement. But she doesn’t always know who I’m a fan of or if I’m interested. So I just only discovered the passing of many people that I was a fan of or just knew about them.
• Dabney Coleman 😮
• Richard Moll 😮
• Louis Gossett Jr. 😮
• Gena Rowlands 😮
• Carl Weathers 😮
• Richard Lewis 😮

😬 Celebrities that I thought had
passed before this year 🙄
💔 Peter Marshall
🤷🏻‍♀️ Ryan O’Neal

😳🫢😧Biggest Surprise😧🤭😳
Donald Sutherland. I liked him fine. But he’s been acting forever. I don’t know why I didn’t come across any news about it somewhere. I’ve often discovered celebrities passing in YouTube by accident. But usually when it’s a long time actor, it’s mainstream. But I didn’t know about Sutherland.

I knew Bob Newhart and James Earl Jones years ago. Such good people who are dearly missed.

You forgot to mention Charles Osgood, who was a longtime host of CBS Sunday Morning succeeding Charles Kuralt in the "In Memoriam" 2024 segment.

Oh man...I'd almost gotten over Shannen Doherty until I saw this. Rest in peace all😢

it's only been 2 months.. and yet it had a very strange effect on me to see Shannen Doherty in this list of famous people who are no longer with us 😢❤ ... it hurts at any age and we are grateful to each of them for what they did in life .. for what they gave us ... but when you see the faces of young people who still had a life ahead of them it hurts even more ... rest in peace and may God have you all in glory 🕯🙏

Bob Newhart was the best. I love when Kimmel sticks it to Stewart for retiring/coming back/winning another Emmy.

Bob would’ve wanted people to laugh after he was gone

Take notes Oscars. This is how you do an In Memoriam tribute. With consideration of the home audience.

RIP to all who were mentioned and to those who were left off. I worked at PBS with Jack Venza and Robin McNeil. They were solid performers at PBS. Now if we can get the motion picture academy to concentrate on a nice and more inclusive memorial like this we would appreciate it.

What about Shelley Duvall?! It’s outrageous she was not included! The people in charge of the In Memoriam segment should be ashamed of themselves.
