My 2003 GT just recently caught a cold... nasty idle, stutters under throttle & CEL with a P0301 = misfire cyl 1. Luckily I came across this video earlier today and decided to go grab a coil to give it a try. Cleared the code after the swap and drove for 20 minutes with no issue.

Reminder though, individual part comes sealed so only open it (open = no returns at parts store) after testing that it is actually the ignition coil ;)

Probably need to order a full set of coils now to swap in when the spark plugs get replaced just to have a proper tune up... but nice to be able to drive smooth for the moment.

I bought a 98 4.6 mustang a few weeks back and it had that miss also but instead of going out and replacing parts I checked the obvious first. Figured since it only started missing under load It was either week spark or air fuel ratio . turned out to be a couple of cracked vacum lines. Runs great now and I only spent a few bucks.

dude i appreciated the information about the cylinders position, and hope that my problem must be only the plugs and coils packs of the 2 and 8 cylinder missfire, i have been scanned the engine with a engie software and displays p308 codes

I had the same problem with my 02 GT but no codes came up. My problem was the fuel I was using. Not the octane level but the quality of the fuel. To much Ethanol in some fuel can cause a misfire. Anything over 10% Ethanol will cause this according to my mechanic.

For anyone watching this: get the Denso Coil. Denso produces the Motorcraft coils now. No sense in paying a ford tax when you get the same part. when i ordered the denso 6 years ago, the ford part number was under the denso sticker😂

I have a misfire type vibration but there isn't a check engine light (on). Is there a method to test the coils rather than just replacing them?

I own a 2003 mustang Gt Vert & it's been having some issues lately. I'm pretty sure it's the spark plugs causing a rough idle, it does shake. Also when I step on the gas there's a delay and a shake then it goes away. :/

Im Sorry to sound stupid but i chaged the 3rd plug how i decided was listening to the motor while unplugging injectors but mine has 2 sets of coils on my 98 not individually but you think it could be a coil pack going bad? Thanks for listening.

I own a mustang gt 02 stored for about 10 years. I have cleaned the injectors, changed spark plugs, changed air filter and mass air sensor and fuel pump and filter . I also did a tune and computer check with no faults showing . But still the car is shaking and whenever it's in gear i cant press the fuel paddle fully. if the car reaches RPM 3200, 3500 it will choke as if the traction control is activated and the car won't take gas to a point it can't turn off. if it's not in gear the car is taking full gas and reaching high RPMs. Any ideas ??

Have the same engine 1997 V8 4.6 Mustang but it has spark plug wires. Strange...

Dang brotha my Hispanic/mexican mechanic just threw a free boot/oem used boot coil pack on mine. I never realised how expensive this coil packs are
