1) spark plugs - check gaps and brand
2) ignition coils bad - replace coil
3) oil on coils - oil well gasket, clean well
4) water on coils from washing
5) water in fuel line/injectors
6) bad pcv valve

Good job explaining the possibilities for random misfire. You possibly hit on the one thing that I was suspicious of, and that was the chance for water to leak into the coil channel at time of washing the engine. My E550 with M278 engine was running fine before I did some minor repairs around the front of the engine and washed the dirty engine with garden hose. I will look into the coils for traces of water that could be causing the random misfire. Much thanks for mentioning the possibility of water inside the coil channel.

Great video! Very informative, a not so common one would be a clogged catalytic converter. That will create a incomplete combustion with detonation and misfires.

You forgot one of the main reasons, a bad or clogged fuel injector or bad fuel injector connector. Also failing fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator causing low furl pressure.

Great video, made it very easy to see everything clearly with the engine on the stand.

What about the distributor? Could it be also that cap and rotor problem that causes misfire?

Great video. You forgot to mention to stop pressure washing your engine bay if that is your cause. Bad idea. Can lead to several immediate or long term issues. Unfortunately whoever needs to hear this can't because they have taken their phone into the shower too many times and can't drive to the store to fix it either.

Good day. I drive 2000 BMW 330i. The vehicle started having stall movements especially poor taking off. Loosing power. The idling started going from smooth to.bad idling as if is a diesel but is a petrol. The vehicle is shaking badly when it idles. Smells fuel as if there is a leakage. Battery power live terminal gets very hot in a way that it leaves burn marks. Check engine light os on. What could be a problem with my vehicle?

Hi great video but you missed reason 7 and that's because oil gets on the plug or plugs resulting from worn oil rings which allow oil to come up pass the oil ring and soak your plug or plugs with oil causing a misfire, just thought that I would add that because that's what happened to my 2005 Chevy Trailblazer.

One of my ignition coils went bad after 60k miles in my Honda, so I replaced all the coils and spark plus. It was running perfect again, until two months later. When I accelerate to about 5k rpms the engine misfires until I let off the gas. Then sometimes qt idle it will barely misfire. No check engine lights go on though. What could it be? Did I not screw in a spark plug tight enough?
