Ive been praying before reading the Bible for a couple of months and asking God to write the words in my heart and believe me I have seen the difference..! I used to get bored and not like reading the Bible and now is something that I look forward to and I test my self to see if I still remember what I read. I also pray that God lets me understand the Bible in the ways that He wants it to be understood and not be influenced by my own views.

1. Not starting with prayer
2. Elevating your experience above scripture
3. Reading the Bible instead of studying it
4. Using the Bible as a self-help manual
5. Trusting in someone else's interpretation
6. Allowing your worldview to influence how we interpret the Bible
7. Picking which verses of the Bible we want to observe
8. Taking verses out of context and forming a theology around it
9. Not comparing the Bible with the Bible
10. Thinking that you know everything about the Bible and that there's nothing more to learn.

You're so on point! I've made the mistake of not praying before and just starting to read it. I'd get distracted and feeling like I just wasn't understanding or getting anything out of it then I realized I didn't pray first so i started getting into the habit of praying first and it really has made a lot of difference.

This is great! Lord conviction can be so rich, Lord knows I'm guilty of a couple of these..and that lead me to a very dark place and I was mad at God and began to lose faith and question everything. Thank you Jesus that I came through alot of it and am beginning to see the beauty of God again

Haven’t watched it yet but seen that we should always pray first, I did this when I first got saved and then stopped to “save myself time” so I’d just pray after and been doing that for months. I agree with so many of the comments saying I stopped praying before and got distracted so easily and just couldn’t focus. Id absolutely agree with all of those comments. It’s harder for me to focus with it ever since and I’ve found I don’t take much away from the Bible if anything every time I’ve read since, and I’ve just been in a world of hurt. This is an answer to a prayer. God is good. I feel like I get over confused when I read the Bible 😅 I often find myself googling or reread on passage over and over because I don’t understand and feel confused or lost. But I don’t have a lot of Christians friends or any friends lol currently finding a church and hopefully a Good bible study group and make new friends to help me understand more 😊
