A very enjoyable day out at Vombsjön (sjön = lake) and Vombs ängar (ängar = meadow) in southern Sweden. Weather forecast was for a sunny day but it turned out to be overcast and increasingly windy, but not too cold (for Sweden). Birds shown here are Whooper Swans, Goldeneye, Red Kites, White-fronted Geese, a small handful of Barnacle Geese, a White-tailed Eagle (one of two seen - this massive bird dwarfing the Kites, Buzzards and Hooded Crows), Goosander, Smew and a distant pair of Common Cranes (a flock of 11 also flew over, causing an excited local to run out of her house, pointing at them - they are harbingers of Spring and were arriving early, so I was very lucky to witness the start of their migration). Other birds seen but not recorded on film were a pair of displaying Red-breasted Mergansers (one pair on arrival before I got my camera out), loads of displaying Great-crested Grebes (couldn't be bothered....I wanted Red-necked !) plus a flyover pair of White Storks (reintroduced, most probably) which were quickly lost behind trees.
