I'm not on an A2 level I would say. Well, vocabulary-wise I know around 1000 words passively. You're right by saying, you won't really enjoy this book if you're at a lower level. But for me it isn't too bad. But it depends on how much you like to look up quite a few words in the dictionary ;-)

I was thinking whether buying this book or not, then I saw your review and went for it. My doubts regarded the alleged mistakes contained in it, that were mentioned in the Amazon reviews. I bought the same version you reviewed, and I must say I am very happy with it. For a medium beginner like me it can be challenging at first but most of the time I can guess the meaning of unknown words from context. I did spot some misplaced stresses (different from the spoken text from audible), and some other mistakes here and there. But the gain I get from reading this book in terms of new vocabulary and just in terms of getting used to Russian speech far outweighs the seldom mistakes (without marked stresses I would get them wrong anyway :D ).

A doubt remains: whether the stories have gone through a review process from a native speaker, and whether the accompanying audio is read by a native. Indeed I checked the Italian version of the same book (I am native Italian) and could tell right away from the sample provided by Amazon that the accompanying audio, although with a near-flawless pronunciation, was not read by a native speaker. Why??? Example: "diversi parte" instead of "diverse parti", a mistake not even children would make.

Also: if you buy this book for different languages the stories seem to be (understandably) exactly the same, of course adapted to the context.

TLDR; I am very happy with the purchase (halfway through now), even with some minor typos here and there. Medium/high beginner level at least.

Hello Kristina. Thanks for confirming this book is a must by. On the website readers.teachyourself.com you may choose to purchase the e-book as well as the audio. Having the audio is an unvaluable ressource for good prununciation.
Please note I have no idea of how good the prununciation but again, if we consider the amount of work related to the size of the book, definitly worth it. A good reader (with stressed voyels) with a good audio is just what we need to improve our spoken russian.

Occasionally there are underlined words who then don't appear in the vocabulary list. This is a problem with your Russian Readers as well. I noticed this many times and was a bit disappointed by the bad "end check".

to me, that book looks too difficult. We need plenty of good graded readers for the lowest levels or no beginners will "keep alive" and get to the level to read this book.
Okay, if you are from Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, etc. you have much better chances to read and understand. I'm from Spain, so learning Russian is much harder. I definitely need much simpler materials. Thanks for the video.
