DBD's FAILED eSports Scene

The concept of a DBD pro scene is nothing new, but BHVR already tried to start one years ago and it went horribly wrong...

I mentioned how some of the *unofficial* tournaments go really well; which ongoing, unofficial tournaments are you guys' favourite? Now would be a good time to show some love to those who are doing it well!

They could have asked pretty much any ordinary player to be caster and they would have done a better job.

After watching nothing but Nurses, the Trapper probably would've seemed to be the fastest thing alive

There will never be a more iconic DBD moment that perfectly sums up the “pro scene” of this game more then the commentary announcer of the tournament being utterly baffled and shocked by the idea of someone using HillBilly’s chainsaw for map traversal.

Space E-sports was... sent to Valhalla

I think it was both BHVR and Space's faults. I mean, BHVR didn't properly look into Space and Space did so many more mistakes.

lol I was one of the people robbed of a spot in the tourney. we saw it as a blessing in disguise while we were watching it live.

Funny enough, my team was part of the second tournaments Space held (Xbox). My team was 4-0, but our opponent lag switched us in our fifth match (that we were winning). We ended up still winning, but we complained about it to Space - who promptly kicked us from the tournament for "making a scene".

I'm not 100% convinced BHVR *knew* the matches would be all Nurse and all Claudette players. Up until the last year or two, the devs left most of us with the impression that they never played their own game in favor of excel spreadsheets of raw numbers. I'd put money on BHVR just flatout having no clue the killer with the lowest kill rate by numbers would be the only one chosen.

This moment of dbd history never fails to me into a constant state of laughter because of how disastrous it was

Did BHVR literally confuse Space Esports with SpaceStation Esports? That would be hilarious.

You NEED to cover DBDs $350, 000 AT&T tournament

It's hilarious for all the wrong reasons 😂😂😂

I remember this tournament. The highlight for me, was the caster not knowing what the hillbillys chainsaw was for lol.
He was like "OMG he is using the chainsaw attack as a mobility tool to get around the map, what a genius play!" or something to that effect.

OH shit you covered it in the video nice LOL

I think the main problem with the hatch situation is the rule itself. It's stated that whoever "finds" the hatch first gets the point. However, its impossible to tell from the view we had whether the survivor was waiting behind the rock for the hatch to open, while also trying to hide from the nurse, or if they arrived seconds after the nurse and had "found" it second.

Have I already heard this story before? Yes.
Will I watch yet ANOTHER YouTube video on it? Absolutely!

Fun fact: playing the full 12 hour stream for any person will have you taken to the international court to be tried for war crimes as it is a needlessly cruel act of torture.

The esports compony shut down never to be seen again. You could say, they went to Valhalla!

I entered and won a DbD tournament way back, it was when the Pig was the newest killer and it was an Xbox exclusive tournament held by fans. No grand prizes, just having competitive fun and giving fans a fun show.

Let me see if I remember what the rules were 🤔
- Only items found in-game via chests were allowed.
- Perks cannot be repeated, so only one decisive strike for example.
- Different characters, Claudette was the Meta for hiding in the shadows due to darker lighting plus her dark clothes and complexion.
- And for some reason, no licensed Killers. This one was puzzling, maybe to prevent Pig players from camping at reverse bear trap boxes? I was a Freddy Main at that time so this rule hurt, decided to pick the Doctor for the tournament due to similar playstyles/strategies.
- Oh and no Iridescent add-ons for Killers. Which I'm convinced was specifically to prevent instant down Huntress games.

Not a perfect set of rules, but everything else was fair game. Only had one game where 3 Survivors escaped and that was on the swamp map with the boat, it was the largest map at the time with tall grass to hide in.
- Oh I forgot, maps were random but repeated for each team for a full round. Meaning one round, all teams would play Coal Tower. Next round would be in Haddonfield, that kind of stuff.

It was fun, I played as the Killer for my team and we actually won first place. It felt great because (this was before cross play was added) for a few months I would get messages from other players after matches who recognized me from the tournament. Messages like "Hey, you're the Doctor main dude!" 🤣 I felt like a mini celebrity haha, only problem was I would explain often that I'm a Freddy main but the tourney wouldn't let me play as him so I picked the Doc instead haha!

Tourneys can and should be fun, it's a damn shame hearing what happened here.
