What upcoming movie should I review next?

I know you gave it a wait, but The Suicide Squad. To me it was surprisingly decent.
Can’t wait for that “6 horror films” vid in October!

Gorey horror is boring. I love cerebral horror and this one fit the bill for me. Like Lovecraft, once you figured out what was going on, you realize later that you are wrong and the real story is darker. I do see your point about it not being very scary... but it was scary enough and VERY entertaining.

The equivalent would be "The Changeling" 1981. Single actor, dealing with loss, big house, a mystery nèeds to be solved, heavy atmospherics, but not scary.

I could have sworn everyone had fallen deeply in love with this film except for me...until now!

This movie deeply scared the shit out of me. Chainsaws and mask do nothing for me, but movies like this are horrifying to me. Right after the movie ended I got up from bed to use the restroom and my heart stopped when out of the corner of my eye I saw a dark shadow figure. I seriously about shit my pants! Thank god is was just my wife’s coat on the back of the mirror. Damn this movie!!

I mean I’m still down for a fun mystery movie even if it’s not necessarily scary

Literally just watched it today and said the same thing - good mystery thriller but not scary at all.

It's definitely more of a study on how complex grief can be rather than a "scary" movie. I actually preferred it this way I thought it was very effective and beautiful. I was actually reminded of how The Joker was more a take on societies ills rather than a comic book movie.

Spoiler:
The entity named "Nothing" was literal but it can also represent void, or our past pain. I believe its both literal, and a metaphor. The final two lines when the neighbor goes "There's nothing there" and she says " I know" then it fades to black. I took that as she won that day but the trauma that haunts her will always lurk in the background. It's an everyday fight (as we see the camera focused on the boat w/ the silhouette of "nothing"). Ultimately though its the viewers interpretation. I personally loved it even more with every rewatch.
