I remember the whole theater going absolutely quiet from tension off of this scene. So gooodd

I can't get over how effective that slight vocal distortion is for such a scene... No music needed.

if you look carefully, you can see a partial human skull merged on the left side of the bear's face

The girl who gets ripped to shreds. The absolute sheer human terror and fear in her acting was phenomenal. That done me in the most, let alone the bear. 100 percent acting

Best scene in the movie. The psychologically miserable aspect of its existence, plus the NoIsEs it/Cass makes were enough to hit home. It's rare that films use the 'look' of a monster merely to enhance the flavor of a creation - the look of the Bear was absolutely chilling, but not enough for most people. I heard a few groans in the theater from those around me who seemed disappointed in the full 'reveal' of the Bear. But the /instant/ it opened its mouth - the entire theater went dead silent. All the way through to the next scene, whereupon the background static of popcorn eating and occasional whispering resumed. It made an impression.

The trauma around this scene is so gut-wrenching. Being trapped while a disfigured, undead creature sizes you up is bad enough, but the fact it has your friends' last words / sounds is an assault on the psyche

It’s criminal that this movie didn’t get more recognition for the creepy and cool things that it brings to the table.

Like the most chilling episodes of black mirror, and other consciousness-oriented horror, the idea of consciousness being maintained or prolonged in a state of suffering with no agency over its ending is one of, if not the most horrifying concepts to be put across in a visual medium.

I'm a horror movie addict and never get scared or things of the sort. But my god, this scene disturbed me. The human cries for help coming out of that thing was so unsettling. Holy shit.

Part of what creeped me out in this scene is the fact that the bear kept mimicking the 'ME' part of 'HELP ME' as if its saying that Cass was still somewhere inside of it when its clearly not. Pair that with the situation they're in where they shouldn't react to it as if saying: "Why aren't you reacting? Its me! I'm still here!"

This is the best scene in the entire movie… the acting is incredible. Everyone in this scene.

That final little “help me-“ broke me, oh my fucking gods-

Always thought that the bear had deliberately stolen the voice, as it didn't eat its victim otherwise- and was legitimately begging for help. It could explain why it doesn't kill during the second encounter until provoked

When you realize what the “Shimmer” is doing you realize that, that might actually be her in the bears body

Sees Bear: "Ok, Just a grotesque bear."
Hears it cry for help: *shudders*

Reminds me of the scene of the Hunger Games when Katniss realizes the mutts they are fighting are mutated with the other defeated tributes. They removed that detail from the movie though, but I remember the horror reading that in the first book.

I feel bad for the bear, not for it being killed, but rather because it's in constant pain from all of the mutation. When Cass's cells mutated with the bear, it started a bigger reaction, it started to turn more human. How? Listen closely when it was killed: "Help, me... It hurts."

Another factor of it being more human is its new set of human teeth, and a human skull on the side of its head.

If you look closely, the bear is only eating the neck. That’s where the voice box is. I think the bear was only going for it.
