This is why you need your Peach Tree Dance story straight

To prepare for this role, Daniel Day Lewis read the script and practiced his lines. This gave an authentic feel to the character as he was also an actor.

Some say DDL murdered 30 people in the woods and buried their bodies in preparation for this role.

Part of me felt bad for Daniel here, at the moment before the shooting. He'd said to Henry prior to this, "having you here gives me a second breath of life." The one person he begins to open up to and connect with turns out to be deceiving him.

Sometimes I walk into my dads room at night when he's sleeping, wake him up and asking him what the name of the farm next to the hill house was.

My favorite part of this scene is Daniel digging the ditch with his pick axe. You know he probably hasnt dug for a long time (now that hes the boss, he has workers to do that). But its a throwback to the intro of the movie. Hes still got it. Skilled digger

I wonder now if Daniel's actual brother really did die of tuberculosis. For all we know, the imposter could have killed him off to take his diary, story and identity. I think Daniel may think this was a possibility too, especially because he "sees the worst in people". The thought of this imposter killing his real brother then just throws him over the edge and (in Daniel's mind) justifies the killing of the imposter. When Daniel pulls the trigger here, he isn't drunk like at the end of the film. He's enraged and looking for vengeance.

The rage in Daniel Day Lewis's eyes when it cuts back to him. I know it's been said, but this man is an amazing actor through and through.

this is one of those movies that as you age, it buries itself deep into your soul and its profound meaning becomes ever more evident.

For some reason, when I saw this in theaters, the expression on Daniel's face at 2:34 caught me off guard and literally startled me.

That dude totally killed the real Henry. How convenient that he just up and died right after telling this shady dude about his rich brother, lol.

Two deaths. The death of an imposter. And the death of any shred of trust Daniel had in humankind. That look at 2:30 says it all.

They way Daniel cries at 4:56 holy shit is that amazing you can tell he just wants to scream and say damnit to the world but can’t how he wishes he could go back but can’t.

5:00 perfectly captures the cry of a man who has completely forgotten how to laugh or cry in a clean good way. He has truly lost himself at that point. Tragic.

The irony here is that he assumed his brother’s identity much like how Daniel assumed the identity of HW’s father. They both did it for financial gain. This is highlighted by HW’s suspicion of the imposter.
Also interesting how both he and Eli are the only ones that proclaim themselves as Daniel’s friend and it appears to be the final straw that pushes him to murder.

I always loved this scene because he went straight into digging a grave at 3am, he's been digging holes & wells his entire life, so it was nothing for him to dig another. I also like how he completes the burial quickly & efficiently, while being extremely careless to how he's buried.

The most raw part of this is that Daniel cries after seeing the baby photo of his brother. He isn’t just some emotionless murderer. He’s just a man. A man of will and absolute conviction, that probably wouldn’t have been as much of a monster if he had family that loved him.
