This scene inspired me to abandon my child

The way DDL delivers the “yes I do” as his head goes back kills me every time hahah

He only ever really feels something when says I've abandoned my child. The rest is an act. But that line really hurts him.

I love this scene. DDL chose not to use tears here and, instead, chose to let Plainview's anger carry him through the scene.

I know everyone is talking about DDL, but God Paul Dano fucking killed this.

DD-L is phenomenal, as per usual, but it's a crime Paul Dano didn't get a Best Supporting nomination at the Oscars that year

"I abandoned my child", "You're a bastard in a basket" and the "Milk-shake" scene WAS INCREDIBLE

"Daniel looks hard at Eli"...That look DDL gives Eli never ceases to chill. Such menace.

1:38 “where’s the lord, eli? have you found him? where is he? where is he? where is he?! oh, there he is.” 😂

This scene is so terrifying because of the way the actors make it feel so authentic

Fun fact: The day before this they filmed the scene were Daniel slaps and pushes Eli into the mud over and over again, so they filmed this right after so Paul could have his revenge and slap Daniel back.

You can see Paul Dano is his peer. They change and react to each other as one. This is perfection acting. Nothing more or less

This is what we call as extraordinary acting

The most important thing here is the following line as DDL raises his head back up and says "There's a pipeline." He now has all he needs to take it all.

I love how the scene shifts from it apparently exposing Daniel's flawed nature to the world to exposing Eli's. You see Daniel momentarily break his composure when his son is brought up, but once Eli crosses the line and oversteps, his entire attitude changes and he begins to smile and goad him on because he knows he's won. He says, "There it is!" as Eli finally breaks character and reveals the malice and narcissism beneath the surface motivating his prophetic performance. I think one power-hungry psychopath recognizes another and it sets up Daniel's instant recognition of the situation when Eli finally comes to him in the bowling ally, as if Daniel had, in a way, a prophetic understanding that one day it would come to this. He then proceeds to beat him to death with a bowling pin.

That slap was hilarious. 🤣Nicely acted by the legend Daniel Day-Lewis.

So wow wow wow. Did ya'll catch that? DDL knew the character wasn't serious about the ceremony but he was taken aback by the mention of his adopted son, 'cause it's true! But ELI screwed up when he overdid things and became physical, which is Daniel's realm. DDL improvised by mocking him during the smackfest and ELI didn't know the wiser! Props to P.Dano too!

I love it when movies pay close attention to someone listening, rather than talking.

Its interesting when you understand the character, he doesn't yell out of pain that he's abandoned his son, he is yelling out of pure rage that he's being bested and humiliated.
