A Shoe Made to Help You Fly
When Eliud Kipchoge ran a marathon in 1:59:40 in 2019, he did so in a prototype of the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT%. This extraordinary achievement in Vienna, Austria was years in the making, a culmination of a collaboration between Eliud and Nike, beginning with Eliud’s effort to break the two-hour marathon barrier in 2017. Eliud’s feat has inspired some of the world’s fastest runners to test their own limits and break their own records, and now the shoe that he wore on that chilly October morning in Vienna is available to you.
Our premiere racing shoe is loaded with new technology and innovation that includes two ultra-responsive Zoom Air pods in the forefoot and additional ZoomX foam in the heel. It’s a racing shoe made to shatter records and PRs, whether you’re looking finish a marathon in two, three, four, or five hours.
Alphafly NEXT%
It’s All About Air
Two streamlined Zoom Air pods in the forefoot deliver even more energy return than just the ZoomX foam that is in the Vaporfly NEXT%.
Alphafly NEXT%
More ZoomX Foam
ZoomX foam is unique in two ways: It’s incredibly responsive and lightweight. The Alphafly NEXT% has more foam than the Vaporfly NEXT%, providing additional impact protection and cushion.
Alphafly NEXT%
Customized Carbon Fiber Plate
Working in tandem with the ZoomX foam and the Zoom Air pods, is a full-length carbon fiber plate that delivers a snappy sensation with each stride. For the Vaporfly NEXT%, we used a single thickness of carbon fiber for all of the sizes. But for the Alphafly NEXT%, the thickness was scaled for the size of each shoe—the plate is more flexible in smaller sizes and gets stiffer as the size of the shoe increases.
Alphafly NEXT%
Introducing AtomKnit
During testing, the Nike Innovation team discovered that with the additional foam and the two Zoom Air pods underfoot, the overall weight of this shoe increased. To shave off some ounces, the Nike Innovation team developed a new Flyknit upper called AtomKnit. Flyknit fabric is steamed and stretched, delivering a lightweight, contoured fit with minimal water absorption and enhanced breathability.

Inspired By the World’s Fastest Runners
Over the course of two years, our Nike Sports Research Lab team traveled to the Kaptagat Training Camp in Kenya to test the Alphafly NEXT% with some of the world’s elite distance runners, including Eliud Kipchoge, and hear their first-hand experiences of running in them.

Yo if you are salty cuz I got a pair to test out casually and to test the new technology since I am genuinely interested in it, but I’m not a runner... remember Jordan, yeah his Air Jordan shoes were used for PERFORMANCE ONLY also, but had a cross over to lifestyle. Some runners can to the same. I say in the beginning this is a casual vid, don’t like it, move on, not a hard thing to do! 🦶✌️

I know you get a lot of hate for using these shoes causally but as a competitive runner myself I take no offense. You make it clear that you are reviewing the shoe from a causal perspective and that the shoe is not intended for causal use. You also seem to truly respect the history and legacy of the shoe and the athletes behind it. Keep up the good work!

It might be interesting to know that while at slow paces, lots of high end racing shoes feel unstable, at quicker paces with higher forces, the stability problems go away. As a runner, not a sneaker guy, this vid was quite an interesting perspective.

I’ve heard so many opinions on this shoe from a runners perspective, it’s nice to hear your review from a casual perspective (nicely done by the way). I’m a runner, not elite by any means but still competitive in my age group, and my biggest problem is the $275 price tag. I suppose if I was some super elite world class athlete they might be worth it but at my level I just can’t justify the price. The other thing I’ve heard is their durability may be lacking. Believe me if I’m going to spend nearly $300 on a pair of running shoes they better hold up for 500+ miles of use which, from what I hear, these don’t even come close. Bottom line, I’ll pass on these for now.

He would get the craziest look from me if I seen him walking around with those on

great for racing, bad for walking. it doesn't matter how soft the cushioning is, this shoe is terrible for walking in so many ways. most ppl heel strike while they walk. this shoe is designed for forefoot strike while running. if you heel strike on these, you lose your balance very easily as there is no heel support and there is no structure for the foam. these shoes are also made for max ventilation so if you just sitting around your feet will be cold. these shoes have about 25% the life span of regular running shoes. the exposed foam wears down quick. even walking in gravel or any unsmoothed surfaces will shread the unprotected zoomx on the bottom with 5-10 mins.

These are for distance racing. It won’t last well on casual use and is meant for forefront landing in running not heel striking with walking

These are not for casual wear and not for running routes that have lots of corners. They are so unstable.

Appreciate the review as always. It's cool that they're insanely, but I personally would not wear these casually. I bought the Zoom Type cuz I felt it was a more casual-flavored version

I believe air zoom is for shoes that have a visible zoom unit (Lebron 10, KD 7, etc.) and zoom air refers to the traditional encapsulated unit you find in most zoom-equipped shoes

i respect the man for trying these out, yes they are not for casual but dont hate on him "hes" a shoe collector. Also I’m a runner and I’m a straight up nerd when it comes to this stuff too.

I honestly don’t know how I feel about this video. I am competitive college runner and tried multiple times to purchase this and the previous colorway. After seeing the comments and the amount of people that want to wear this casually, I am annoyed. I want these for performance but I losing out to people wearing them casually

Yeah, the cushion is crazy good. I have worn my pair for running and sometimes casual wear, no problems with them yet.
Cool review, going from a casual viewpoint.

I don’t know man from what I’ve read I don’t think those are safe to wear just as casual shoes. I feel like certain shoes are shaped a certain way. Running shoes are those type of shoes. Basketball shoes are a little bit different because there’s a lot of times in the game we were just standing still. When you’re running you’re supposed to be running and when you’re done running you get off your feet. Screw it though if you want to be a guinea pig go ahead and do it.

Bro, with the insane stack height of these combined with ZERO lateral support (they are designed to go forward and forward only), you are BEGGING to roll your ankles in a most horrific way by wearing them casually. Dragsters are badass on drag strips, not so much in a cul de sac. But hey, to each their own!

To think that runners like me are struggling to even find a pair to buy to go run actual races, that is the staple of all running shoes, every distance runner is on their knees for them and he is just at his table with a pair talking about how he’s going to wear them casually 🤦‍♂️
