Welcome, my name is Phil, and in this video I discuss the closest exoplanet to Earth.

The closest exoplanet (Proxima Centauri b) to Earth orbits the closest star, known as Proxima Centauri. It is just over 4 light years away which very close in astronomical terms. The planet is comparable in size to Earth and sits in the habitable zone. Although since Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf star the habitable zone places is very close to the star.

Not only does the closest star host a potentially habitable Earth like planet but there are two other planets in the system. Proxima Centauri c is a super Earth or Sub Neptune planet further out, which is very cold. Proxima Centauri d is smaller than Earth and inside the inner edge of the Habitable Zone, which makes to very hot.

Thank You.

These Red dwarf planets move extremely rapidly around their orbits, compared to Jupiter's moons? Why is this?
