DIY Aluminum 80/20 Tubing Simrig by The Simpit

I have had so many requests to show my rig (Sim Chassis) and how it was built. In reality my rig is quite old and has gone through so many variations, that despite being highly functional, it was not as nice as it could be. For this and a few other reasons I decided to build myself a new rig and chronicle that build for you.

The new rig will be made of Aluminum Profile Tubing. This tubing comes in many different trade names, Extrusion, 80/20 and profile just to name a few. The tubing also comes in a variety of different styles, shapes and hardware all unique to that manufacturer. Regardless of the brand name or style of tubing they all work in a very similar manor.

One thing to remember when planning your own build. This rig was built for me, and I am a shorter driver. If you are taller you might want to add more length and height to your design. Also some tubing companies might have better hardware then I used available. My design here is more for inspiration and a starting point then actual blueprint to do your own.

I have also filmed a full length version of this rig build. That video will be able to be seen within a couple of days. I also built a triple screen monitor stand, I will have that show available in a couple days after that.

Yes! I was looking forward to one of these. My favorite videos from ISR when you were there was the rig builds. I already have a rig, but its cool to see new ones built and how they were constructed.

I was glad to see you posting a how to on this profile tubing. I have been curious about this stuff. I built a PVC rig after seeing your PVC build. It was a lot of fun to build. I am now thinking about replacing it with the metal tubing. Thanks a ton Shaun.

Man I’m sooo glad to find you again. I bought my Granstand because of you in 2013. I always wondered where you went. Following you now. You look great!!!

I use to work with 8020 and Bosch rexroth aluminum profile tubing. I like the Bosch accessory's list and I get the company discount! The 45 mm 80/20 and Bosch match up! We used it for material handling at a Large NW Aircraft company. We cut it with a 12"miter saw and a Freud 12' 96 tooth carbide Thin Kerf Non-Ferrous Metal Saw Blade. About $100 blade. I used an table saw with a similar 10" carbide high tooth count blade at home. Allow the blade to cut and do not rush it. You can make a second spring pass to make the cut pretty. The Bosch Swivel Bracket kit allows my wheel deck to rotate 180 degrees and move up and down in a T-Slot to allow my friends to adjust to their liking. My seat and wheel deck platform sit on 45mm T-Slot tubing allowing both to move in and out in relation to my pedal box that also have 30 degrees of rotation. Fanatec Turbo-S and Clubsport V1 pedals.

A NICE build show for this Highly Recommended material. I don't personally have this 80/20 rig. But, I know it is a Great Quality type of a rig. Good Job, Shaun.

Good video, you have inspired me to finally build a rig later this year when I can afford to. It looks solid and I actually might buy the GranStand rig that u did review on years ago and add to it to fix the slight flexing problem. But this video gave me more ideas to help me. Later.

As many have mentioned, I am also curious to hear your opinions on the modified G27 and also looking forward to hear about the TV stand.

Great video and very interesting to see how you did it. I would suggest to make more DYI videos.
Also, it might be useful to hear how much all the material have cost you, as a reference. I missed that part in the video
