This video was mainly based on a transcript of the article "Balkanska kletva? Rat i nacija na prostoru bivše Jugoslavije" from the newspaper Crvena Kritika by MO Crveni. Some sections have been supplemented by me (for the sake of adjusting it to the video format and my audience) and revised through translation. If you would like to see a whole detailed "case study" series on Yugoslav/Balkan history and deep analysis of the historical eras I had to gloss over in this documentary, make sure to subscribe to the channel to not miss any new videos. Wow. Just wow. Beautifully done. I have never found such a clear, precise and interesting explanation of Yugoslavia. Thank you very much, comrade!

Bureaucracy is quite quickly becoming one of my most hated words.

Jedna stvar za vaše video snimke koju bih lepo zamolio jeste da molim vas ponovo počnete snimke(stock footage) da stavljate u pozadinu video zapisa.Jer zaista lako izgubim pažnju kada ih nema.

Your comparison of Italy and Germany to the South Slavs is a very good one. If they're nation building project came relatively late, then ours completely missed the bus. We probably needed a TITO like figure 100 years earlier!

This was such a clear, concise and surprisingly deep for an overview, of the modern history of the Balkans an especially Yugoslav history, in many ways I can see some similarities between the split and downfall of Yugoslavia and the process that fractured Latin America some 200 years ago.

From a mexican comrade, thank you so much for this comrade!

Wow this was an education. Thank you for making this video. It's so important to dispel the bourgeois mythos surrounding the breakup of Yugoslavia.

Just watched - have been trying to wrap my head around this difficult and convoluted history for a while. Your video essay has helped me grasp this place/period with greater clarity. Thank you.

Just one funny thing I remembered when you called Kingdom of Yugoslavia ''the prison cell of nations''. When our (Slovenian) writer Ivan Cankar was imprisoned at the Ljubljana castle in the old Austro-Hungary he was imprisoned because he called Austria-Hungary the prison of people/nationalities and was politicaly vocal about stopping the war with Serbian brothers and was keen on creating a new union of southern Slavs. Did I miss you mentioning the state of SHS(Slovenians, Croats and Serbs)? I know it was very short lived, before the Kingdom of Yugoslavia but I think there's more to say about it.
Good video nontheless.

Beautifully written. Thank you

thank you so much from a Southern European country where we 30-40 year olds grew up watching the Balkan conflict unfold live in the news, not understanding a single thing about it (or knowing about the US/EU's war crimes) This is really eye-opening!

I smell a Trotskyist. You’ve done a great job teaching in a historical material way. You address the movement’s and party’s and class interests that led to today, and have stayed away from metaphysical analysis. But as soon as there’s talk of the split with the USSR we gotta talk about how bad Stalin was. I’ll re watch but I think the first name drop in this vid is Stalin. I finna stand on business for my steel man. Maybe I’m wrong and will continue to educate myself and fr great vid, love from WV!

I'd like you to do a similar video on the Russian Revolution under Lenin, Trotsky & Stalin along with how it's viewed by the wider world, especially Russia 🇷🇺 and the West. I hope you (as a Marxist) can bring the nuance you always do for these things 👍🏼

Dude, you are like the Balkan Carl Sagan with the way you explain history and politics.

Zauvek živela Jugoslavia!

Tito and Zhukov didn’t fight and defend their countries just for them to fall apart and descend into internal conflict.

Thank you for the education comrade. Your compassion is noted, and your hardwork is appreciated

The trot slant on this kind of tinges how seriously a lot of assertions can be. Trotskyists are well read but twist words the same way liberals do.

Footage or headings in the middle of the screen that lingers forever darkens the background photos, and maps to an extent that it is almost unwatchable .
When headings disappear, picture returns to normal
Am I the only one having this problem ?

It is what they say about us Chechens, we are violent creatures who are not people. That is how Americans see all Muslims and how Russians portray Chechens and Chechnya
