Heres how dual screen works with 1 screen:
Turn the Switch 90 degrees to portrait mode. Split the screen in half with software. Reattch the magnetic joycons to the side of the screen. This is portable ds/3ds compatibility.

TV mode. The dock has a wifi chipset, wirelessly stream the switch to the tv, the tv is 1 screen and the switch build in one is he touch screen. So ds/3ds/wiiu compatibility in tv mode.
