EL Zone by Ed Lachman it's much better, false color is are based on IRE values, which track percentages in voltage, aren’t consistent with Stop Values on lenses or light meters, and are not the same from one manufacturer to another. Not having EL Zone, false color remains a useful tool.

I love to use my Atomos recorder with the false color tool all the time, is very useful especially in outside films. Great reel explaining how to use it 💪🏻

I only use a lightmeter, works best for me in Terms of Speed, Look and consistency between Shots.

I just bought a light meter yesterday, yes we can use False colour and EL zone system but I think I could do better job on set with light meter because I can directly check the light falling on the face

I’m a newbie so still trying to understand it now that I have a monitor with false color. Does this to bury, depending on what picture profile you are using? I have a Sony a6400 and I shoot in HLG3 since Slog has never given me any good results. Thanks!

Shane Hurlbut still uses his Sekonic. He came up through the film days if memory serves.

What if the something gets underexposed when you try to hot that sweet spot for faces?

Yeah the false color thing is also why so many films are so flat looking

Its always interesting as a Black filmmaker repeatedly seeing the unintended racism of stating a “perfectly exposed skintone” meaning a caucasian skintone. Its should be stated as “perfect exposure for caucasian skintone”, as a darker skinned person would have a different exposure requirement. It’s ‘little’ things like this which wil help move us all forward.
