The Man in the High Castle is an American dystopian alternate history television series created for streaming service Amazon Prime Video, depicting a parallel universe where the Axis powers of Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan rule the world after their victory in World War II. It was created by Frank Spotnitz and produced by Amazon Studios, Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions (with Scott serving as executive producer), Headline Pictures, Electric Shepherd Productions, and Big Light Productions. The series is based on Philip K. Dick's 1962 novel of the same name.

In the TV show, the films come from an alternate dimension where those events transpired. In season 1, its explained that a “Heisenberg device” (another name for the atomic bomb) is the reason for inter-dimensional travel. So it seems that the use of this weapon has made inter-dimensional travel possible. But this is never explored or explained.

Instead, we come to learn that characters like Juliana, Tagomi, and Kotomichi are able to move between these dimensions. And in Tagomi’s case, we see him return from one of his visits to our reality (where the Allies won the war) with a film of the U.S. atomic tests at the Bikini Atoll. This is how we learn that these films are legitimate but have been transported from their place of origin by these travelers. Of course, given how many films have been brought back and collected by The Man in the High Castle, we can assume that many people are capable of dimensional travel and that there is a concerted effort to collect the films.

It’s also interesting to note that the show suggests (and specifies outright in the producer’s comments), that in order to move between dimensions, a person may only be alive in one of them. So you can't run into yourself. (Quora: @PeterCooper)

From what I heard the show was pretty good but unfortunately if I recall correctly they had to wrap everything up by season 3 or 4 when really they needed at least another season to really wrap plot in storylines effectively

This series was great but it portrayed the Japanese as way less fanatical than they were. I get how the Nazified Americans behaved, the Cold War era of the real timeline time was balls to the wall already. I think for some reason the Japanese were made to look moderate.
