In 1942, young Traudl Junge (Alexandra Maria Lara) lands her dream job -- secretary to Adolf Hitler (Bruno Ganz) at the peak of his power. Three years later, Hitler's empire is now his underground bunker. The real-life Traudl narrates Hitler's final days as he rages against imagined betrayers and barks orders to phantom armies, while his mistress, Eva Braun (Juliane Köhler), clucks over his emotional distance, and other infamous Nazis prepare for the end.

Bruno Ganz gave a performance that will, in my opinion, never be surpassed. Not only did he look like Hitler, he became Hitler. Down to his mannerisms, his speech, and the way he could fly into a seething rage at the drop of a pin. It’s a crime he didn’t receive an Oscar for this role. RIP Bruno. You were legendary.

I've seen Bruno Ganz in Vienna, in the U4, a year before he passed away. It was 2pm, I was trunk, but I told him, that he is amazing and that I have seen the movie and so on... He was really amazed and said: "Thank you, I hope you liked me in the movie"... I just said: "you are a great, really great actor! I adore you! " He said: "thank you, thank you..."and his eyes were brightening up. (really). This was a highlight in my life. RIP Bruno Ganz!🙏

I didn’t know Bruno G. died, but Downfall was the only thing I’ve seen him in and he did Hitler spot on. The first 10 seconds when they ascend from the bunker looked strikingly similar to the real photos.

The fact that Bruno Ganz didn’t win the Oscar for Best Actor is a crime in itself. His performance was downright chilling.
I still own the DVD and it’s one of my favorite war films of all time. Rest in peace Mr. Ganz. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💐🎥

I worked as an extra on that movie. Between takes the director played a mix of German 1940's music and bombing sounds - a noise that caused us a real feeling of terror and claustrophobia, especially as we couldn't leave the set. It was traumatazing but the perfect energy for shooting the film.

The portrayal of Hitler in terms of demeanour, facial features and the look of a dejected man were so good that Bruno Ganz was like the man himself. Superb acting. RIP Bruno.

When he returned to the bunker he paused half way down the stairs, placed his hand on the wall and bowed his head a bit, I felt that, a broken man no matter whom it is, it’s rock bottom.
