My headcannon is that "angel" became a pet name after people have been hearing Crowley calling Aziraphale that way for centuries

LOL I have a headcanon where Crowley is talking to some human and refers to Aziraphale only as angel and the human went like, "Ah, so he's in love with his angel. That's such a nice term of endearment. I'll use it from now on." And that's how it became popular among the humans.

In the book when they meet Anathema, it's says:

There was definitely something weird about them, she decided. Aziraphale bowed again. "So glad to have been of assistance, " he said.

Ah. Well, that explained it. She had been perfectly safe after all.

Basically she thought they were a couple cause he called Aziraphale angel, and they never tell her otherwise😂.
