Wikipedia Pluto description (it can be Pluto or Hades, Hades was the original name but changed as greek culture developed, with Hades becoming the name for the underworld):
Pluto (mythology)
Pluto (Greek: Πλούτων, Ploutōn) was the ruler of the underworld in classical mythology. The earlier name for the god was Hades, which became more common as the name of the underworld itself. In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Pluto represents a more positive concept of the god who presides over the afterlife.

Nito was originally supposed to be under where Priscilla is in the game if I remember correctly. Priscilla also holds a scythe and has run away from something. Maybe Gwyn threatened her to leave Nito as it would seem like Gwyn's foes are joining in a sense, and that's why Nito mourns her as she is hidden from him in the Painted world. Just a thought.

Is it a coincidence that Miyazaki decided that in DS3 Nito and Priscilla are the only two known individuals that Aldrich dreamt of?

Hol up!
Isn't Gwynevere a symbol of "fertility and bounty"? Priscilla is her beautiful daughter, who happens to be trapped in a cold, barren wasteland, holding a LIFEHUNT scythe! You can even find the wheel skeletons in the painted world, as if Nito wanted to retrieve her...

I've always thought Nito's track sounds very sad. He's depressed, and that's why he doesn't try very hard against you during his fight.

I´ll still post this despite the years that had passed:

Illusory Wall uploaded a video in which he goes in depth about the things that can be found out of bounds (unused paths & structures, etc), and in one ocasion he found a third smaller coffin in the top-right wall besides Nito´s coffin. He suggested that the statues in the catacombs are a tribute to Nito´s potential family and that pinwheel could very well be a cultist copycat.

Excellent theory. In light of this, I can't help but notice that all of the "trapped" statues in the Catacombs bear the mask of the Mother (with spikes emanating from what appears to be a crest of the Child) whilst the statues bearing the visage of the Father are benign. Coincidence is not the Dark Souls way.

When I barely knew anything about Dark Souls, I thought Nito was the final boss. He looks so Final Boss-y

You may be interested to know that the character design for Nito likely comes from a Kurosawa film in the late 1950s. Throne of Blood at the end of the first encounter with the Kami (19:40 or so) shows a pile of bones which Nito seems to be an exact copy of. For now, the movie is on Daily Motion, so give it a look some time.

I feel bad for Nito. I suppose in the end he was left alone, considering how little screentime he actually gets, but his legacy kinda dies in DS2 with the Rotten as there isn't really much mention of him in DS3. Poor dude was just laying in bed forever with his dead surrounding him and one day you trot along and slaughter him- a big, slow and limping god who has to summon dead to help him.

You should also take into consideration that in Japanese, Gwynevere is not a goddess of fertility and bounty, but a Goddess of Harvest and Blessing- This would much better explain all the harvest related symbols in the various places in the game

What if the person he loved was the Lady Filianore? And when she was sent to the Ringed City by her father Gwyn, Nito became depressed and stayed in his tomb, but kept hers open, in case she ever came back?

There's technically three coffins in Nito's area..
One is right beside Nito's coffin but the other is hidden behind a crack in the cave's wall behind Nito's coffin that's closed if I remember correctly.. (Thanks to the channel Illusory Wall)
So there might be more to Nito than what has been speculated already..

Another detail: in ds3, Friedes scythes description states that scythes are a symbol for a lost home

Any way to connect Priscilla as the one he fell in love with? She's likely the perfect size. Not to mention she USES the lifehunt scythe. And would make sense how she is irretrievably separated from Nito. Btw @Hawkshaw I love the videos. Must've watched the hour long ones at least 10x.

FINALLY a content creator who mentions this connection! I thought about this when I last played Dark Souls. I believe ENB also pointed the wheat out in his playthrough, establishing a connection to Gwynevere since she's the godess of bounty and fertility. I thought back then that there could've been a separate god or more likely godess based on Persephone.
Gwyn always struck me as a Zeus-like figure, I mean it''s obvious just from his visual design.

I'm so glad you're connecting so many dots! It's so cool to watch videos that are so well researched and made with true passion, it seems.

Nito is my favorite lord for multiple reasons. His fight may be a solid meh but everything else is amazing, atmosphere, build up, ost. And he’s just a chad, he became a lord killed the dragons then just slept and chilled.

Illusory wall discovered that there's a third coffin there as well ... gives a whole new meaning to pinwheel and Nito ...

I never made the Persephone reference. You continue to astound me. Thank you for your in depth archeology.
