Modern Warfare 2 Remastered fan mod H2M has been shut down by Activision. They sent a cease and desist to the mod team and the mod team has decided to fully comply and remove the game. This is a shame because H2M MW2 Remastered actually ran on the Modern Warfare Remastered engine which became a bestseller on Steam in the weeks leading up to this release. A number of fans can now no longer return the game.

Imagine selling a game with known security exploits that could potentially damage your personal security and computer. Someone comes and makes a mod that allows you to play the game safely so you put it on sale and then once everyone buys it when the sale ends you just take the money and run and keep the game as a security risk. I wish I could sell malware legitimately and legally

I think this is precisely why the Stop Killing Games movement is gaining so much traction.

If the devs won't take care of their older games to keep it in a functioning or playable state, then the community should have the right to fix it themselves as long as they legally paid for it.

If a mod does better than COD BO6, you know Activision is incompetent

It got leaked and there's already a central revived H2M that a bunch of people are already playing btw.

At this point if Activision ever does an official remake of MW2 multiplayer it should be boycotted.

They dont deserve any more money from the IP after how they've treated its community.

Activision literally has all the assets made for MW2 remastered why not release along side the campaign? Now they’re backed into a corner because of all the negative reactions plus MW3 has all the same maps it’ll feel pretty stale.

Still playable apparently, the files are being shared around with server browser as well- just have to be safe with who you download the files from 😅

At this point, anybody looking to make tribute to the glory days of Call of Duty would be better off banding together and making a game of their own, because Activision clearly doesn't want anything to threaten the Barbie Battle Royale cashgrab that CoD has become since Black Ops 4.

I don't see how cancelling this solves the shared playerbase issue. Everyone I know is completely boycotting the COD franchise, and they won't be playing the bo6 beta. How did they not forsee this as a result of the c&d?

If the mod is finished, the files are out there, the server browser works and people can host games what’s the problem?

H2M is still up and running with full servers

The last CoD game that I bought was MW 2019, the last CoD game that I put serious time into was MWR. Them deciding to scrap this mod is not going to make me buy BO6, if anything they just vindicated my decision to stop playing their games.

Activision seriously missed the mark here. Instead of shutting down the H2M mod with a cease and desist, they could have recognized its potential and partnered with the independent developers behind it. By doing so, Activision—who didn’t originally own the H2M mod since it was created by independent basement developers—could have gained control over its release, ensuring it wouldn’t interfere with the launch of Black Ops 6.

Once they had control, Activision could have strategically planned to release the H2M mod under their own branding, possibly as Modern Warfare 4, promoting it as the biggest Call of Duty release ever. Imagine launching a game with over 50 multiplayer maps already crafted by the H2M team. They could have taken it a step further by involving all their studios—Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Raven, etc.—to work on the game together, polishing it to a pristine level and adding even more content, like new maps, modes, and more.

To cater to different player preferences, they could have created two distinct playlists: one featuring the classic MW2 movement and another with the modern Call of Duty mechanics. This would have appealed to both nostalgic fans and those who enjoy the latest gameplay styles.

Additionally, Activision could have introduced unique camos, skins, and other cosmetic items to monetize the game even further, creating a massive revenue stream. Releasing classic OG Modern Warfare 3 maps as DLC throughout the year would have kept the player base engaged and excited.

By shutting down the H2M mod, Activision missed a chance to turn a community-driven project into a blockbuster title under their own control. It’s frustrating to see them pass up on such a massive opportunity to create something truly epic with the combined efforts of all their studios, the ability to cater to different movement preferences, and extensive monetization potential.

Everyone should mass report mw remastered, there are exploits that hackers can use to steal your information in the game.
