I don't have anything deep to contribute, but something that stood out to me was the way Jack's memories change as his younger self grows older. The memories of when he was a toddler are short and abrupt. Nothing more than snapshots of random events. As he gets older, the memories are longer. Whole conversations are recalled. I find this is exactly how I remember my own childhood - short blips of images when I was very young, getting more detailed for memories of my older self. Again, this all seems rather obvious, but it really does convince me that many of these scenes were taken directly from Malick's own childhood memories.

Jack is like his father, this does not sit well with Jack. He wants what his brother had, that intimacy with his mother, music and the arts. Not an option that is why Jack's brother is such a major theme in the afterlife. He is, in a way the heart and soul of the family. The one they all want to touch base with. This movie is without doubt a masterpiece in every sense of the word. If ever a director hit the highs of his career then this is it. A unique experience in the movie world to this day.

Masterpiece. Complete and perfect in its mastery, maybe the ultimate expression of the artform which began with silent, non-narrative movies. But only people who have spent time seeking answers in life -- and possibly only those with loving and complex relationships with one or both parents-- will be able to take in the full emotional weight and overwhelming beauty of this film.

I find this to be one of the most boring film i've ever seen, but also one of the best.

I think the cinematography was very well done and beautiful. But I found myself scratching my head for the first 45 minutes of the movie because it was all nature/dinosaur shots. Truly, I was confused for most of the movie but this helped clear up a bit of my confusion.

A Masterpiece! You really have to see it twice and pump up the sound if you can.

A masterpiece, but not for everyone. Too challenging for most people. No car chases, gun fights, super heroes, or tits, which is what the masses want. (Yes, I'm a snob)

Mother is Earth, Father is God, and his brother was his only witness to a perfect crime. This is what I felt.

I loved this movie, very different to the mainstream ones I usually watch. Totally captivated me and occasionally tugged on the heart strings. One thing I couldn't figure out was which brother died and how it happened. I think it was the middle one that died but no idea how and if the older brother may of had something to do with it. Can you help with the answer??

I loved this film but, like "Wings of Desire", it's not typical Hollywood fare and thank God for that. It's not a narrative as much as it is a reflection on our relationship with our families and ultimately, our relationship with a very loving God. I wept throughout most of this film. I loved it but I tend to love more esoteric films. Also, I'm a seeker of God...🤪

How did he die? That's the only question I had in mind

It was difficult to watch. The mindset of many men/fathers that they had to be brutal to teach their kids to grow up right and their wife's had no say. Kids never grew up to feel safe and to be able to trust.

So did he have two brothers or one? What was up with the kid with the missing hair patch? The whole thing seemed like a series of random events tied together by hope and luck.
