The worst part is that it's probably not because nobody watched it but because not enough people finished it in the first 28-days

Netflix: Cancels all of the best shows after a season or two due to poor viewership.
Also Netflix: Orders and renews countless After, Tall Girl and Kissing Booth sequels.

Creator: “yeah so the story plays out over multiple seasons and-“
Netflix: “I’m sorry, what?”
Creator: “ the story plays out over multiple seasons…. Ya know….. like a tv show…?”

- Hey Netflix, we have this show that has a nice planned structure over the course of several seasons with the potential to drag in viewers at many points through it's run.
- Cool, let's test it out and if Season 1 doesn't sell like crazy we'll just cancel the whole thing

- Hey Netflix, we have this self contained show that is planned as a one season thing and it would probably break apart if we did more but it's fine because it's just a one-off.
- Cool, let's immediately order 4 more seasons.

When I heard yesterday that 1899 got the axe, I realized Netflix has cancelled every original series I’ve watched for the last 2-3 years.

Netflix is always making sure you can never do an Austin Powers marathon by only having one or two entries of the franchise available at a time.

As Netflix once said, "We'll cancel after season one. Except Too Hot to Handle, give them a billion dollars."

I guess the show was too hot for Netflix to handle

This is the reason the audience don’t have faith in Netflix products. We just prepare for disappointment at this point

Hey, remember when The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance got cancelled by Netflix the day after it won an Emmy despite the producers stating numerous times that the story was one they were planning to tell over numerous seasons, thus leading to the Jim Henson company having to scramble in order to find a way to continue said story????
Netflix is a joke, I swear. 1899 fans I’m so sorry you gotta go through this too :(

"Dark was an absolute success and regarded as one of our best shows! You made a beautifully interconnected show that worked perfectly over multiple seasons. You can make another show!"
"Really?"
"No!"

Genuinely had to hold my breath for Sandman to get a season 2

Didn’t you know? All first seasons of television have to be standalone. There’s no conceivable reason a show should have to go more than one season. That’s why stranger things famously only has one!

I can't believe Man Carrying Netflix would cancel such a beloved show... I really thought he was carrying netflix

It's sad because 1899's story was supposed to go for only three seasons and it wasn't even an audience flop, but it still got axed for not being an immediate hit. I hope Netflix continues to decline in subscribers, they deserve this for constantly betraying both their consumers and the artists who trust them to distribute their work.

The two types of TV shows in 2023:

One season with 13 episodes that never gets renewed

Will never die and is milked for all eternity, season after season, until they spoil anything that made the show good in the first place

Netflix: Giving Midnight Gospel and Aunty Donna's Big Ol' House Of Fun another season? Nah.
Also Netflix: WE NEED BIG MOUTH AND EMILY IN PARIS TO HAVE ELEVENTY BILLION SEASONS!
