I’ve not read The Fountains of Silence but a whole bunch kids at my school read it last year when it was nominated for a YA book award, they all loved it so I can pass on their recommendation ☺️

I know how you feel about all the books. I have such a problem letting any of them go. I just need to substitute hardbacks for softbacks before I depart with them.

Mr Loverman is such a good book and hilarious in parts.. a must read. Blonde Roots is also excellent... the only one I have found so far that's not for me was Emperors Babe because its written in poetry, ,

I read Andersonville avout 60 years ago and I still remember it as one of the most depressing and horrifying books I've ever read. That impression may be because I was in my twenties, but you might want to consider your mental state when you pick it up.

Humboldt's Gift left a more agreeable impression.

Read Mr Loverman on audio as it’s narrated in that wonderful West Indies accent and the humour comes through really well.Same for Memorial unforgettable book also great on audio.

I enjoy your book haul revisits! I recently listened to The Fountains of Silence and enjoyed it. It's long but I think it would read quickly. I'm not a regular YA reader but I picked this one up because it was set during the Franco dictatorship. It had the teen romance, melodrama and neat ending I expect from YA but the historical setting and information were excellent and well-integrated into the narrative. I felt like I was in 1950s Spain and learned a little more about a historical chapter that wasn't covered in my education. If you find yourself avoiding the print version, the audio version was well-done and the historical ephemera worked well in this format as well.

In 2017, I read Sinclair Lewis’ “It Can’t Happen Here” (1935). With the election of a certain someone we’d rather forget, the book mirrored a leader of the same temperament. This book should be an automatic recommendation for everyone especially those who question the value of the democratic electoral system.

I have not read The Executioner's Song (although I did see the movie with Tommy Lee Jones). But I highly recommend The Castle in the Forest by Mailer, which I believe was his final novel. I loved it.

An interesting list indeed. Fountains of Silence has been on my radar but I have yet to pick it up. I have been holding off on Memorial because of the very mixed reviews. If you read it I will be interested to hear what you think. 😊💙

Becoming by Michelle Obama holds such a place in my heart. It makes me emotional just thinking about it and I am Canadian and obviously knew who Michelle Obama was but was not overly familar with her story but it was just so good!

I have been meaning to read Sinclair Lewis. And Then There Was None was really great. I mean to reread it. Nile was my last Christie and it was interesting though it established that mystery even by Christie isn't my favourite genre and I will read the ones on my shelves and Ackroyd–the last of her big ones remaining but I don't feel much desire to read through her like I once did

Just bought Mr Loverman and Blonde Roots after loving Girl, Woman, Other. Are you going to be reading her new novel Manifesto anytime soon? Would love a review! ❤️

I read Solomon twice. Fantastic. I totally ignore maps in books.

I did not love Fountains of Silence on audio. I think it would have been better as a physical read.
