Nice to see Prusa finally adressing this flaw.
I have to operate my Mini in my garage (where it has about 8°C) due to air quality issues (and you should also not use it in your home environment!) and I have to preheat this thing for at least 30 minutes until all the thermal expansion is handelled correctly and I get a consistent first layer calibration. If I don't do that my first layers are after MINDA proping complet garbage! Sometimes the Nozzle is rammed into the bed, other times the z-level is zeroed 1mm over the printbed. This is ridiculous.
Needless to say that I hate having to preheat the machine this long with hot water bottles (yes. The damn machine refuses service below 15°C and shuts itself off. So i have to warm the printbed artificially until it has reached 15°C and heat it normally from there.) AND having to do the first layer calibration multiple times before EVERY damn print.
I will get this upgrade and see if it improves consistency.

I haven’t upgraded to the new probe, and my prints are good every time.

Great to hear that the upgrade works 👍
Thanks for sharing ☺️

Thanks for the video - i hope the sensor will solve my problems with the initial first layer. When it was printing, it was damn perfect - no fails. But getting OVER the first layer was a bit of gamble.

3:41 Electronics trolling off-camera, and failing to fail on camera. Yup, sounds like electronics all right.

I ordered a mini a couple weeks ago before the announcement of the mini+, and they’re sending me the mini+ upgrade for free 😁

I was just wondering about the pinda probe, may have to get the upgrade.
My filament tube came out of the stepper motor/extruder. The brass fitting was still in place under the nut. Came back to find a coil of filament behind the mini and a failed print

Question: 5:16 I dont see how that is not pointing to the pinda probe. if your bed level is off your pinda probe should adjust to it. that is its job. I'm a big fan of the bltouch's they do a really good job. I had a MK2S and the pinda in that was a nightmare. now my main printers are 2 cr-10s pro's with bltouch upgrades. i miss the direct drive but that pinda probe was a pain in the ars.

If you only knew what pinda means in Czech :D it's funny hearing you say it so many times :D

I contacted Prusa several times because my mini continuously crashed in to the smooth sheet at random at the start of a print. Like it got the z height completely wrong. This only happened on the first print of the day and with a proven gcode file. I have to say Prusa we’re not very helpful and my mini destroyed about 6 smooth sheets on both sides. Prusa didn’t offer to replace anything and refused to accept the probe could be an issue. Frustrating. It must have been a common problem that they kept quiet about.

I’ve researched for a few months now. Think I’m going to grab the full size version for my first FDM.

So in the end that fixes your issues and you will recommend the prusa mini to all 3d print enthusiasts? I am considering buying a new Mini+ :3

Your original Mini did not come with a PINDA it came with a MINDA, PINDAs were only on the MKs

i had some issues with first layer as well, but once i started using a bit of glue and lowered z a bit the failure rate dropped almost completely. also added a bit more extrusion to the first layer in the prusa-slicer.
such "fix" does result with elephant feet from time to time...

Hey Uncle Jessy, we are a bit more than one year later. What's the final verdict? 🙂

I’m really curious how the probe achieves temperature invariance without a thermistor. Is it just shielded?

Hey did you go to BU?

Also thanks for the video - this finally convinced me to get in line for a mini. Been printing with it for a few months, WAY less stress than even my Mk2.5! It really is a killer everyday machine.

Any updates on how the upgrade is performing? Thanks!
