As the general public have come to embrace the world of electric cars, there's been a growing pain that not many people have been talking about. One that could create a huge problem as more people make the switch. Eilis and Rich tackle the issue as well as other classic EV myths.

A big thank you to @Shmee150 for letting us swing by the @TheShmuseum!

HUGE shoutout to Shmee150 for letting us film at his Shmuseum and for being so accommodating and supportive. And shoutout to CTEK for setting up this opportunity for us.

I havent checked the numbers, but it would be more realistic to compare numbers of petrol pumps to chargers, rather than filling stations. Also, when each car takes approximately 50 times longer to actually fill up, you do need more anyway. But yes, filling up at home is brilliant.

My wife & I (in our 70s) are on our 4th EVs, we live in the country so most of our journeys are longish. We have never had a problem with range. I often do 300+ kilometers without bringing the type 2 cable with me. The trick is to top up before you enter a charging black spot. I rely on DC rapid chargers. We share a single charger at home & use it on alternative nights.

How can you charge them if u live in a housing estate or on a street? U can't drag electric cables going across the footpaths everyday or night, u will be liable for anyone who trips on it, electric cars are only for people who have their own private driveway

What about sooo many people who don’t have garages to charge overnight? What about those people get stuck in traffic jams in freezing weather and need their heater on and draining the battery for hours at a time? What about the resale value of an EV after just a few years when the battery efficiency drops like a rock? I’ll keep my gasoline engine thank you.

So nice of TIm letting other YouTubers, Channels, fellow petrol/electroheads visit his awesome, awesome cave. Taycan Turbo S in this spec doesn't look out of place among supercars.

Still a long way to go before we can be comfortable with the public charging network. Far too flippant to say it's not a problem. My public charging experiences have not been great.

UK 5 percent VAT on electricity compared to 60 to 70 percent total tax on petrol / diesel.
This will soon change if the majority end up in EVs.
The last wild goose chase to get everybody into diesels started with lower duty for diesel.
That ended well.

18-22 year olds???...seriously how many of them can even afford an EV? Have you seen all the issues Shmee has had with charging in Europe?

Charge the car overnight. But what happens if, in the middle of the night, theres an emergency....the wife is having a baby, u need to get to A and E, the dog needs to go to the vet at 4am, etc??

24.6% of UK households don't have access to off street parking. So charging times and availability for fast chargers are a big issue. Most people who rent will not be allowed to fit a home charger. So we need decent at destination fast charging. I think your argument is rather lacking to be honest when we take these facts into account. How many viewers of the same age group as these presenters have the opportunity to own their own house with off street parking? This is well intentioned but comes across as patronising. This is a bigger problem that needs to be solved.

Charging is only a concern when your doing long distance driving, for Mr & Mrs averaged doing the daily grind only a very small percentage of the charge gets used. With a home charger used on alternate nights if two elec cars are in the family problem is solved, thanks for the video 👍

I love that Tim is on this channel but has multiple videos showing how awful it is to own an electric car 😂

Ummm my model 3 would do 200 max. That was fine for trips from Edinburgh down to England and back. No point in dragging round a much bigger battery than needed day to day just so you can drive further than your bladder can last a few times a year

You could always charge on alternate days. Most of the time i only plug in once a week. Does this charger split the current smartly? Eg if the first car is done will it give the full charge to car 2 even if they’re both still plugged in?

Cost isn’t cheaper when you factor in lost productive time!
Charging points info garbage 25, 000 vs petrol stations with multiple pumps that all pump at the same rate.
Charging units are two slow!
Wake up you two, when your spending as much money as these cost you don’t want to compromise!
You want to get to your destination without wasting time in the rain at charging points and that excludes winter weather.
Electric cars aren’t the future we need alternatives? Today electric cars will also dump money as is evident in PCP residuals.
Let alone technology will make a 4 year old electric car lie an old mobile phone of the same age!
Seems just a advert for a charging system.
Oh and there aren’t that many electric cars out there either. Who wants to charge their car all night on slow chargers?
