Recently got a Famicom! The price was right and I even got the Disk System with it! Though I sadly don't have games to try it out with.

The NES and Famicom hardware aren’t “identical”.

The NES doesn’t have the capability to execute the functions of a number of enhancement chips, for example the VRC6 chip, which provides better sound for certain games, like the Japanese version of Castlevania III Dracula’s Curse, or the VRC2 chip used in the Japanese version of Contra, which provides visual effects not seen in the American version.

It’s the same hardware, they had to change the name and design to sell it in the states and they changed the cartridge PIN number from 60 to 72 probably as an additional measure for region protection as the lockout chip is the only other thing that blocks international games and it’s easy to disable. They changed the wiring for expansion audio to go through the expansion slot at the bottom but it’s easily fixable if you want it to go back through the cartridge slot.

I'd say the Famicom is better than the NES, due to the Famicom supporting lots of expansions, e.g the Famicom Disk System, lots of sound expansion chips, like the Namco 163 or Konami VRC7 (basically a cut-down Yamaha YM2413 OPLL FM chip)

I grew up with the famicom... or a famiclone 😅 in Cuba we had lots of chinese clone consoles. I still have my first cartridge ever, TMNT 3 project manhatan in a bootleg famicom cartridge, but still works as the first day!!.

🚨 NOTICE 🚨Don’t push those games down your putting stress on them they can work without pushing them it’s safer to not push them then to break a game over time

There are a few minor hardware differences with the Famicom - most notably the Famicom supports cartridge sound expansion (e.g. the Konami VRC6 featuring two pulse channels and a sawtooth channel) which the NES does not support without making a simple board modification.

Why would Japan do their own country like that the famicon is ugly and kind of impractical to play on
