Boy, I sure do love the NES disk system.

Unlike the SFC and SNES where all you need to do to play SFC games on the SNES is the pull out the plastic pins that prevent the cartridges from fitting in the slot.

The panic attack he had at 0:31 caught me off-guard laughing

The one thing you forgot to mention was that FDS allowed for additional sound channels, gving a richer sound to songs not found on their more famous cartridge ports

quick reminder that the Famicom does not have its own seperate page on Wikipedia and instead is featured in a page about the NES
I tried getting the two seperated a few months back and unfortunately was unsuccessful, hopefully that'll change in the next few years

Thanks for clearing all this up! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to play Nintendo Land on my Wii.

Worth mentioning there is technically a first party Famicom to NES adapter - they were built into *some* NES games that were rushed to American markets, like early copies of Gyromite

Fact: originally the Famicom Disk System was going to be launch in USA. But it was Canceled due to Unknown reasons but most probably is due to the lowering pricing of the chips back then. Because remember the FDS was an alternative to the expensive Cartridge. Another argument is that Nintendo thought that games on disk won't be so durable because of the children careless behavior

The looping "music" really influences how it feels to watch this

...wait, get creative with third-party adapters? O.O

...and let's not get into cannibalizing Gyromite to play Famicom games.

I wish we got a disk system in the US. I wouldn’t have been able to afford it, but I would have loved to see it.

I have never heard anyone confusing the Famicom and the Disk System. Is that a real problem? And I have only seen NES and Famicom used interchangeably when it's about ROMs.

This is great and insightful and all, but do all toasters toast toast?

Would a NES Duck Hunt in a 60 to 72 pin adapter work with the NES Zapper on the Japanese Famicom, though? It might be that the FC Duck Hunt doesn't have Zapper support, not that the wiring is different (otherwise, how would the controllers work?)

hey you forgot the famicom nickname in hk - the red white machine. the nes was just referred to as the american ver nintendo. there was no confusion in hk on that... just on many other things heh
