I'm from the Azores and I must tell September and even October are better than July. August is better as well but it's more expensive of course. The summer comes and goes late in the Azores, in September you'll have warmer seas, higher temperatures, drier days and less tourists. I always advise September to my friends, its the real summer. There are rainy days, as always (that's why it's so green), so take the chance to go to the hot springs in São Miguel island :)
