Rome, 216 B.C. Panic reigns across the streets. Nobody knows what will happen. Will Rome fall? Is this the end of the Roman Empire?

In this episode I will speak about the Battle of Cannae, one of the most important battles ever fought by the Roman Empire. While it was quite a destructive defeat for the Roman Empire, they learned some lessons because of it.

If you liked this video, be sure to leave a like, maybe share the video with your friends and perhaps consider subscribing, as I will make a video on other wars in the future. Stay tuned!

Also came from Reddit. Great work.

Curious to learn more about some battles from the Napoleonic Wars, such as the Battle of Austerlitz, the Battle of Trafalgar, or the Battle of the Pyramids

Good video. More volume and normalized volume is needed. While I can turn up my speakers easily, this video seemed to be much lower than anything else I've watched lately.

Great Video! Just one thing that would really help would be a pointer on screen to elaborate more when showing map pictures. Sometimes I did not know what I should be looking at to correspond to what was being said. But I gave the vid a like. Great job!

In the 3rd minute during the preamble to the battle you state that the Romans, "put their best infantry at the front - as they always did." Do you have a source for this? Every ancient source I've read states that the Pre-Marian Roman legion was subdivided into three lines from the front ranked hastati - least well equipped and experienced - through the principes and then triarii in the third line - best equipped and most experienced. The Romans were nothing if not traditional, and Hannibal exploited their predictability repeatedly. If they stationed the triarii at the front rank, that would be a fascinating departure from the Republican era's typical battle formation in the face of their most dangerous opponent.

a disaster for the Romans, but they learned to fight as cunningly as the Carthaginians did. the supersists of those defeated legions were almost exiled from the Roman Senate. the only possibility for them to redeem themselves was to repay the Carthaginians with the same coin ... they went to get them, and did their duty ... I leave to you the narration of the revenge of the Romans. bye 🖐
