60, 000 Roman losses in a day? Wow. We didn't see that kind of slaughter again until WW1, which had artillery and machine guns. As far as i know, this was the first use of the double envelopment (the so called pincer movement). Hannibal was a brilliant commander

Anyone wonder why when an army surrounded got killed a lot and faster. Well in this case, The romans start with more compact formation. But when they got surrounded the roman infantry in the middle cant do anything to fight and just waiting. So the Carthaginian that surround the romans can kill with 2 vs 1 impact. In battle usually soldier dont overly honourable by figthing 1 vs 1 without help. This period soldier train to stab enemy that figthing other soldier. Stabbing behind, Cheap shot, "sucker punch" anything than works is key. Winning is everything. The quicker the better.

TY, this is 1 of my favorite battles of antiquity & I enjoyed the way you've portrayed it. keep up the good work. Wanted to ask if you've done any miniature wargaming or hex based games?
