FYI: I use Victor mouse traps in this video, but they aren't endorsing these methods or nor did they have anything to do with making this video.

Thank you for filming the trap in close up mode when you baited. You are only one on youtube to do that, much appreciated. Most these other tutorials didn't do close up. Can't see what they are doing. Great, helpful.

FINALLY. I had a mouse running around my house for a week, I only just got traps the other day but just them alone with peanut butter on top wasn't working; the mice literally licked clean 3 of the victor traps. I used your advice with adjusting the metal to make it more sensitive, and also mixed peanut butter with the q tip and stuck it inside the curled end of the trigger, and within the day I caught it. Thank you so much!

My housemates and I were trying to catch this mouse for 7 days, but every single night/ early morning it would eat up all of our bait (peanut butter and Cheerios) without triggering the mousetrap at all. Finally, I tried your cotton and peanut butter trick and it worked!!! Thanks so much :)

Awesome! I woke up this morning to 4 traps with dead mice in them! We had tried the 72 MB Maxcatch glue boards (2 escapes). And my wife and 3 daughters were getting more and more nervous. I needed to go old school + tweaks. I ordered a 12 pack of victor mouse snap traps. Took the cotton off Qtips, threaded the cotton through the hole in the metal piece and put some peanut butter on! One thing I did was microwave the peanut butter for 25 seconds to activate the protein. BAM! 4 kills! I did not tweak the sensitivity at all with pliers! But I am very happy with the results so far! first 24 hours and 4 dead mice. That makes things better for my wife and kids. And it kind of grosses me out too! Thanks for your video!

Thanks for great advice! We've been trying to catch our little intruder for over a week now. We added cotton to the peanut butter and adjusted the sensitivity of the traps and that did it in just 2 hours!

Putting the bait underneath worked well! I finally caught one last night, thank you!

I've use tootsie-roll, it's the best bait now. You chew it till is gets soft then put it on the trigger. It hardens on the trigger so the little bastards have to yank on it. Works 99% of the time.

Followed your advice; I messed with the catch just like you did and also put peanut butter under the trigger mechanism. Caught four mice in the four traps I had set up in my garage just as soon as the sun went down. The night before, I just spread the PB on top and every trap was licked clean without them even going off.

Thanks for the tips! Really helped me out.

After battling a major mice infestation in my house, here's one piece of very valuable information I've learned and would like to pass on: use the larger rat traps instead of the smaller mice traps. I don't care if they call them rat traps, they are much better at killing mice than the smaller mouse traps are. I cant' tell you how many times I set a mouse trap only to find the next morning it had been sprung, but no mouse. This of course meant that the trap either failed to strike the mouse completely, or it struck the mouse but not with a terminal blow. So I "upgraded" to the larger, more powerful rat traps, and every morning there are dead mice in them.

Thank you for the tips. I adjusted the tension because the mice were able to lick the trap clean without setting off the trap. I got glued a Dorito to the trap and smeared the peanut butter were you said. Caught two already! Thanks again!

Excellent tips! Got the one eluding my trap. I never thought to put the bait under the trigger, and loosen the part holding the pin.. Thanks!

Instead of loose cotton, I wrap a cotton string (kite string) around the trigger. The peanut oil soaks into the string and your mice will tug on the flavorful string even if it can lick off the peanut butter. This never failed me.

thank you for the hacks. Literally after 5 minutes of watching your video we caught our first mouse with cotton and peanut butter mix

Adjusting the trigger and placing the bait underneath worked very well. After being unable to catch the mouse for 2 weeks, I caught it within 10 min after setting trap using the hacks. Also used cotton trick but no results yet.

@gardenfork Do you find it important to handle traps with gloves so that mice do not detect your 'human' smell? I've read advice to that effect...

100% agree with the needle knows pliers I figured that out earlier tonight. In fact i came here looking to see if this hack was posted. I was thinking of actually creating a video about it Adjusting the sensitivity on a snap trap with the needle nose pliers. Major difference being I was looking to see if there were videos on how to decrease the sensitivity for those who are experiencing an inability to set the trap because it's just too sensitive.
My method however was not to tilt the entire mechanism in or out. Since my issue was that the trap was too sensitive out of the pack my goal was to Decrease the sensitivity. Initially I did bend that whole latching mechanism tab inward. But because the mouse traps I was using (PIC Brand - 4 pack from Dollar Tree) has a different trigger mechanism with a whole lot more play in it, as well as a different shape ( Longer, thinner, and flat instead of V notched); Leaning it inward just caused it to Move outward under the pressure of the Springs while trying to set the trap. That resulted in my fingers almost getting caught. So instead I used the needle nose pliers to squeeze The ends of the tab and increase the buckling Effect Where the pin latches. I found this to be quite effective. It allowed me to decrease the sensitivity enough to set the trap, but not so much that the mouse tugging on the Tootsie roll (my preferred bait) would be tolerated. The only thing more frustrating than a trap you can't set, is walking up to clean baitless trap that is still set. You've basically fed your mice.

My mouse traps my Tootsie rolls and my needle-nose pliers all came from the Dollar Tree.

Great tips! I'll try them right away... there's a rat I haven't been able to catch. It just keeps eating the peanut butter. Another thing I do to make the bait more attractive is to mix in a small piece of bacon. Works everytime... except with the aforementioned rat. Greetings from Baja, Mexico.

Thanks for the tips! I used the peanut butter cotton bait with the tweaked traps and within the hour, I heard a snap. 🙏🏼 Thanks again!

Hi what about the same kind of mouse trap that has a yellow plastic where you put the peanut butter on, how would you recommend to use those?
Thank you!

I use to use all the methos in this video, then I plugged all of the the width of a pencil and bigger with Steel Wool. I no longer have a rodent problem, as they can't get in. I found a hole the size of a softball near the gas pipe and one the size of a baseball near the water pipe. After I stuffed the holes with steel wool, I calked over it.
