Why the IPCC climate reports are so important

The intergovernmental panel on climate change releases the definitive reports on global warming, with the next major report coming out in 2021 and 2022. But how do these reports actually work, and how far can you trust them?

in case you're wondering about 1:44... "extremely likely" is IPCC code for 95% probability or higher!

As someone who has had difficulty reading even the Summary report of AR5, hearing that Adam will summarize the new reports in his videos makes me happy! :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this video and breaking this down. I've always wondered where/how to find a consensus from scientists on climate change but have never known where to start. This was so informative and I love how you keep it entertaining too! Keep on creating!!

I didn't even realize it was time for another IPCC report - thanks for the update & breakdown of what to expect

Even without a scientific report I can feel how the ecosystem is influenced badly by the rampant natrual destruction and rampant commercialization.

To a degree that the coronavirus outbreak, the mice plague outbreak, the flood, forest fires and all sorts of "natural"disasters happened.

Ignoring the whole life-threatening crisis thing, it's just so cool to see hundreds of scientists representing all countries write thousands of pages about the current scientific consensus. Thanks for the explainer!

Hiya! Thank you for another informative video. I didn't completely understand what ipcc meant and I also didn't know they were split into 3 sections! I will be sure to read them all when they come out

Thank you for still making videos!

I've always been very angry with deforestation and clear cutting but I guess Greta was the first one to really bring me on board with the climate and climate science. I never heard of the IPCC until I heard her constantly talking about them. In fact I had no idea there was anything more then maybe Sierra club and friends of the earth etc. I knew about David Suzuki and Attenborough but I had never heard of a climatologists, just a meteorologist. Adam, you're awesome keep spreading the information, we need to get hip to it. Man, I hope Greta goes to the COP, I think Biden is doling out vaccines around the world so she'll rethink her decision. She's connected the way no one else has been able to and it's really important she's there.

Also, I find your choice of music soothing and I think the volume level is perfect so I can focus on your voice but there's also something there in the background to fill it out. ALSO I think blue suits you very well 😊 I hope you have a lovely day!

5:15 This is a great bait-and-switch and a very important point. Idk why so many people think that climate scientists are just funded by "Big Solar, " like that's even a thing.

Thanks for this video! I'm now writing my master's thesis on adaptation to climate change of Warsaw so I can't wait for this report too :D

Thanks, Adam. I came here off the back of the skeptical science website. You are doing such great work.

Thank you for taking the time to produce this video. Great explanation and entertaining at the same time.

Hey bro. Maybe you could also create a video on how we can learn to comprehend these kind of reports. In most cases, we get to take people's word instead of discerning the essence of the reports themselves.

Looking forward to the summary though. Great work!

Hi Adam, thanks for making IPCC more understandable! I'm an undergraduate student and would like to make a video explaining about climate in my native language. Would you mind if I use your video as a reference? Thanks! :)

Good explanation. I'm looking forward to report release on Monday 9th and meaning to blog about it.

There will be new stuff about attribution of extreme events. Doubt sea-level predictions will have changed much since SROCC in 2019.

If you want something to bet on, will climate sensitivity range be narrower than 2-4.5 °C? I'll stick my neck out and say yes, at least a more precise range will be quoted.

And will you update your fingernail colour depending on whether it's good or bad news? If you've ever mentioned nail colour, it's not on one of the majority of videos I've missed...

A bit off topic but what is the meaning of "panel" in the IPCC acronym? I am not native English speaker and it's not obvious. Also, it won't be obvious to local people when I explain the acronym.
