IPCC Sixth Climate Assessment. Will this one make the blindest bit of difference?

preview_player
Показать описание
The IPCC has been publishing science based climate warning assessments since 1990 and in those 30 odd years human beings have released more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than we did in the previous two centuries. That has to go down as a fail. This latest report contains the starkest and bluntest language so far. So will this one make any difference?

EXTRA DEEP DIVE DISCUSSION WITH IPCC SCIENTISTS 16.8.21
In an extraordinarily candid interview with Dr. Alison Green, Sir Robert Watson and Dr. James Dyke reflect on the IPCC AR6 report on the physical science of climate change, published on August 9th. They both stress the need for urgent action at the CoP in Glasgow in November 2021, and for honesty about what governments will actually do between 2021 and 2030.

These mini-courses teach the main concepts in select JHAT videos and go beyond to help you learn additional scientific or conservation concepts. The courses are great for teachers to use or for individual learning.

"and that they would definitely have a very good look at thinking about discussing the possibility of considering some concrete actions"
made my day 😂

As a little boy 50 years ago, I asked my parents where the cloud of "smoke" from a truck in front of us went. They answered, "It just disappears." I knew intuitively that was impossible and remember being alarmed at the sight of that exhaust and their response, not to fault my parents, that has been the mind-set of the masses for generations.

Judging from our collective response to the COVID Pandemic, I don’t expect an adequate response from our political leadership. Self interest is the biggest hurdle to implementing already proven solutions.

Dave, your description of our world leaders who will "definitely have a very good look at thinking about discussing the possibility of considering some concrete actions" is priceless. Thank you for this apt description. I'll use this as the introduction to my comments at a planning session for our North Carolina Architects this coming week. The point of the session is to further our profession's commitment to net zero and expand our influence in the discussion at all levels socially and politically in our state. It is not lost on us that buildings contribute 40% to greenhouse gas emissions, not to mention the impact on other of the planet's resources. Thank you once again!

Upon analyzing the data we leave behind, the aliens will be amazed at the detailed manner in which we documented our demise.

I am embarrassed to admit I live in Australia, a country who’s government has their heads so far up their backsides that they are ignoring all this to our peril.

I think the most important point is, that any step towards sustainability, even the smallest will be beneficial long term. Just because you don't achieve the goals set doesn't mean giving up is the same. If you are driving a car against the wall it is still useful to try and brake and reduce the impact even if you know you gonna crash anyway.

Funny how the rundown in media, the serious media, present this as the last warning, but according to your detailed rundown, it is obvious that even if the most drastic action is taken, the feedback processes might already be of a magnitude which renders our effort only a temporary band aid and +3 is pretty certain for 2100. Guess the IPCC collaborators don't want to promote hopelessness, but even if they try to muster optimism, their graphs tell it as it is!

I downloaded the full report, all 3949 pages of it, purely out of interest. I've only used it with a search tool to find specific references but what little I have read is sobering indeed. Most people should stick to the Summary For Policy Makers. I would recommend downloading and reading that rather than following the media headlines.

This report doesn't even take feedback loops into account. We are fucked

thank you for making the report "real"! We sometimes get lost in the data, you presented all the important concepts in an easy to grasp way. Great work

Thank you Dave. The content is utterly terrifying. I am currently sharing (not for the first time) your excellent video wherever I can think. Shameful that everyone has been able to see this coming for 30 years.

This is incredibly scary. Thank you for your analysis. I was very grateful for not having an ad every couple of minutes as well.

This covid pandemic was just the first in a long line of upcomming timeouts that mother nature has in store for us.

I'm 68 ... I marched for the climate and the environment when I was 18 ... nothing has happened in 50 years since, and I don't expect that will change soon ... So, with no wife, no kids and no grandkids ... I no longer give a fcuk ... you're on your own.

There is a new oil well due to be commissioned in Scotland despite the COP event being held there. It doesn't inspire much confidence.

The inertia of the system is enormous and it took decades to load. Now we start to face the results, and this is just the beginning. It will take centuries to stop and reverse the process, even if we stop to emit co2 today. I' m sorry for the innocents. Thank you for your great job anyway!
