Kinda sad how everyone says kiwis are so nice. Im from new zealand and to me its just normal. Makes me wonder what people from other countries are like. Surely we arent that much nicer? Im sure there are nice people everywhere. Maybe its just a subjective observation. I say this out of curiosity and of concern

It’s really weird, I’ve been to the states twice, from NZ and you can taste the lack of grass in their milk, kind of how we can smell rain coming 30 mins before.

New Zealand is not immune from tourists being targeted by nasty people but when they are hurt we tend to really take it personally and anyone who does it will regret it.

The no shoes thing is both NZ and AUS. It’s quite normal in some suburbs and coastal towns.

Originally from Michigan, I moved to NZ 29 years ago. I love it here. The dairy is so good because the cows are grass fed, not grain fed. Great video!

I went into the sushi shop today with no shoes lol, it must be a kiwi thing. I think it’s our strong beach/surfer culture plus we are a pretty laid back people. No shoes, no worries.

I'm SO glad you guys mentioned the hole in the Ozone Layer and the need for sunscreen to avoid the very real 10 minute burn times; I see so many Americans walking around all bright pink because they didn't know or didn't take it seriously.

Our country's small size means we all feel very close to each other, and we're raised to be very helpful and polite to other people, so even people like myself who prefer to avoid conversation with strangers will talk to or help out anyone that asks or looks like they need a hand.

The shoes thing is because footwear never really caught on in Maori culture, aggravated by them often not being able to afford any, so not wearing shoes has become normalised in NZ culture as a whole and is practised across all walks of life. It also lends into our very 'chill' attitude about things; in both NZ and AU, "she'll be 'right" is a common response when someone highlights an unexpected problem or complication.
