Interestingly this accident took place while Vader was in the middle of modifying and rebuilding his suit under palpatine’s suggestion

Vader tried to remove some of the problems that plague his suit. Most notably his lightsaber combat. He solve the problem by making room for his ability to raise the saber to maximum height with only one hand. Not with two hands.

He also did some adjustments to the helmets vision to give him a more tactical approach. He put an intercom so he can get orders from palpatine which actually worked and alerted Vader.

He also improve the life support so if the helmet is damaged or remove, he won’t die…. Unless force lightning damages it like in episode 6.

Mostly everything you see visually remain the same and that upgraded suit went on throughout the entirety of star wars without you even knowing.

In the battle against the grand inquisitor he was simply testing the new suit’s capabilities and surpassed the original suit in every way. The rest my friends is history.
