Why NASA's Artemis II mission is being delayed to 2026

NASA's Artemis II mission will send Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen and three of his American counterparts around the moon, but they'll have to wait a little longer than expected.

The setback will also delay Artemis III, which should see humans step foot on the moon for the first time since the 1970’s, to 2027.

Global’s Touria Izri explains why the launch has been delayed again, and why the U.S. still expects to win the global space race.

As one of the children of Apollo, I am disappointed that the mission is being delayed. But I'd be a LOT more disappointed if the crew didn't come home safely. The critics will never have to tell an astronaut's family that their loved one is gone.

Everyone is also forgetting that during the Apollo era NASA had 10 times the budget they have today. We should be happy with what we are gettting.

10 years behind schedule, I wouldn't fly anything by NASA, they are not the same organization that flew Apollo and the space shuttle.

How have we landed 10 different missions on the moon, but it's so hard to do now?

hmm... with all the more than 50 years grown technology, their todays holy grail of 2024 (super computers and worhiped AI), they are not able to repeat a task from 1969 with ease. Just think about that for a second ;-)

They are very concerned about Radiation and X-Ray levels. I don'y think they will be able to land for many years if at all. It's too dangerous to to have Astronauts at the Lunar Gateway or on the surface for more that a few days let alone extended periods, they just cant get past the radiation issues.

Sure, space is hard. But getting us back to the moon wouldn’t be so delayed with better leadership and accountability.

Why not work with China rather than always against China?

There is no 'dark side' of the moon. Just the other side we can see because it is tidally locked to us. The other side gets just as much sun as the side we see.

Human space exploration is taking a big step forward from Apollo to Artemis.
- It brings *human* to places we've never been before.
