I am LOVING your tutorials right now! most of the other tutorials on youtube teach you how to make a certain object and I like yours because you tech the mechanics and you make it very easy to understand. thank you very much and I cant wait to see more!

Good questions. Using the mirror modifier is something you have to think about and plan for before you use it. When starting a character that I know I'll be using the mirror modifier to model with, I NEVER move the default cube from 0, 0, 0 before I start modelling. This helps me know where the mirror will be. It sounds like your problem is caused by the modifier 'clipping' option. You normally want it on, but turn it off to separate the legs, then turn it back on.

I've spent way too much time trying to figure this out **properly** on my own, only to have it behave in unwanted ways. Thank you kind sir.

@leviclark100 You need to apply the mirror modifier. Click the apply button in the mirror modifier options before adding hair particles.

Using the mirror modifier exactly as shown is how you do exactly as you described. The last step is to make the other half 'real' once you're finished, so that all vertexes exist on both sides. You do this by applying the mirror modifier in under the wrench tab (press 'Apply') <-- this will make it permanent.

Then you mentioned the clipping part and then I learned something new that I've been trying to for the past 3 years. Hurray

Yeah, it was one of my nervous ticks I had when I first started making tutorials. I stopped doing it after the first 20 or so videos, and the audio quality in my newer videos, thanks to a new mic, is much better too.

You'll need to press 'Apply' in the mirror modifier options under the wrench tab in the Properties window. This is how you apply any modifier, including Mirror.

@thePIVOTfilmz you need to check the boxes next to 'clipping' and 'merge' in the mirror modifier options as soon as you add the mirror modifier, which I do in the video.

skip to 4:00 if you just need to know how to add a mirror modifier.

This is a REALLY good tutorial! No words to describe my gratitude.

I guess the only thing that could have been added in the explanation is how to center the cursor, if by chance it was moved by the user.
