Basically everybody ran to the shore, hoping they would be safe near the water, but they were buried

0:47 Except for one, the scrolls were wisely saved in the hopes that one day, the technology would be found to actually read them, Very recently, using certain types of radiation, they have begun to look at a scroll and are able to read occasional letters, and on rarer occasions, a full sentence.
2:25 Those boathouses were at the shoreline 2k years ago, but the repeated pyroclastic flows, rained down 18 feet of pumice and ash-extending the shoreline quite a bit. Vesuvius last blew it's top in 1944. during World War 2 (there is amazing newsreel footage) and so, it is just a matter of time to get a replay of the AD 79 eruption. Worse, Campi Flegrei, a super volcano is adjacent to Naples (population, 909, 000 people), which is just north of Pompeii.
