Delusion Disorder

In this video Darren Magee outlines delusion disorder, a mental illness previously known as paranoid disorder. Though sometimes delusions may be symptoms of another mental health illness such as schizophrenia, Delusion disorder is both distinct and quite rare. It is a disorder where someone finds it difficult to distinguish between fact and what is imagined, and someone with this disorder can experience paranoia.

Common delusions include:

Persecutory delusions - the belief that there is injustice of some kind, someone may believe there are conspiracies against them.

Grandiose, or megalomania - the belief that someone is very special, an over inflated sense of importance or power.

Jealousy - the belief that their partner is cheating on them.

Somatic - the belief that someone is very ill

This can be difficult to differentiate from an anxiety disorder, as the delusions cause anxiety, and anxiety can cause unhelpful thinking habits

This is really great. Could you perhaps make a video or something on the difference between a delusion disorder and a person's religious, spiritual or political beliefs? Where the line is where someone borders on it become a mental wellness issue? The world is so wild at the moment with so much mis-information that it feels like almost everyone has there own intense schema of themselves and the world around them.

Can you have delusional like thoughts and not be delusional? I have a fear of becoming schizophrenic/delusional, I get random delusional thoughts but I know they’re irrational but they cause me intense anxiety and panic attacks.

I have this, I was told 3 years ago. I've never seen or heard anything in my life, it's more of a really strong gut feel that you just can't break. It affects life. It brings alot of depression and the medication hits me hard. I have no friends left. And loneliness I'm worried can cause delusions too.

am i delusional coz im dreaming to be the king of hiphop same level of greatness of MJ and elvis
usually i spend time daydreaming or visualizing that im that person im dreaming about although its extremely impossible to make it coz i lack resources and skills but am i delusional or what im thinking is all nothing but a genius ideas?

What can you do if someone you love has been experiencing a paranoid delusion for over 20 years?
I've tried to get them to logically approach the issue. Didn't work.
I coupled this with letting her know how the false belief is negatively impacting her life (she's driven friends away, is more isolated). Didn't work.
I directly pleaded emotionally with her.. Didn't help.

She sincerely believes a wealthy individual is harassing her, "playing games" with her, etc. It makes no sense, but every bad or unexpected thing that happens, it's all a result of this real person who is behind it.
Very sad.

I've recommended psychological intervention. She'll say she'd talk, but never schedles an appointment. 🙁

Any recommendations?

Is it possible to help such a person? Have you seen such patients recover from their delusions and see them for what they are? Thank you.
