Hilariously familiar. My second guitar teacher was a HUUUGE RHCP fan and through him I learnt a bunch of songs by them, including this one. He was all “anti-tab, pro ear/theory” so the challenge was to learn it from what he gave me (key, tempo, scales) and use that with my ear to figure it out. I ended up accidentally learning all of Flea’s little embellishments with the guitar parts, plus I came away with a pretty swag hybrid picking technique that I had invent to play what I thought was just a guitar 🤷‍♂️ best mistake I ever made while learning guitar.
