Night Raids in WWI

Among the most harrowing tactics of World War I were trench raids—small, stealthy attacks carried out under the cover of darkness. These missions were designed to gather intelligence, capture enemy soldiers, or sabotage positions just beyond the front lines. Raiders would strip down their gear to move quietly, armed only with silent, close-combat weapons like knives, clubs, and pistols. Even brass knuckles and trench tools were used. The goal was to strike fast, cause chaos, and disappear before the enemy could mount a response. Participation was often voluntary, and while success could earn medals or recognition, failure meant near-certain death. Trench raids demanded nerve, aggression, and silence—there was no room for error. For those involved, it was a raw and deeply personal form of combat. Today, trench raids are remembered not just for their brutality, but for the grim courage of those who took part in them.

I have been seeing the famous 2nd photo here, portraying it to be ww1

But however, on closer look... They're using the P37 Battledress and webbing

Making it a WW2 photo
