it's crazy how many different archer you can make, all fighter, ranger/swords bard/fighter, gloomstalker assassin, bard/rogue, bow or dual xbows.

This is my first time hearing about the club of hill giant strength, will definitely keep an eye out for it on my next playthrough. .That sounds like it'd also be a a crazy good weapon for a tavern brawler monk

This has served me well so far! Even though I got aggressive with the goblins before getting the titanstring in act 1 lol I got it at moonrise tower thank god. thanks! I’ll be back next time I level up

Honestly this is a really solid build, as you said it's very simple and its very easy to follow. If you're playing with friends there is a decent chance you wont have to sub anything out due to conflicting builds. I do feel however that this build can be optimized to be even better. Down below is a similar version of the build that in Theory should work. (P.S. sorry for the wall of text down below)

instead of battlemaster take Champion at lvl 3 (this lowers the number needed for a crit by 1, at lvl 7 you get to add your proficiency to Strength, dex, and con checks you're not already proficient in, at lvl 10 choose Defense fighting style for +1 AC.

For the cloak, grab either Derivation or Shade-slayer, Derivation heals you for 1d4 when you poison a foe, Shade-slayer lowers the minimum number needed for a crit by 1 while hiding (which shouldnt be hard to succeed with 20 dex)

As a secondary ring since it's not stated in the video, use whispering promise as it can be triggered upon healing yourself with the ring of regen.

use the knife of the undermountain king and dead shot to lower the number needed for a crit by 1 each (with the first champion subclass feat and hiding while wearing the shade-slayer the number needed should be a 16 which should be easily obtainable).

for Illithid powers (optional btw) you can use psionic overload to deal 1d4 psionic damage on your attacks at the cost of suffering 1d4 psionic at the end of your turn (which can and will be canceled out by ring of regen and Derivation cloak if you decided to use that over shade slayer), and Stage fright to force targets to have disadvantage against you with weapon attacks and deal 2d6 psionic damage to them when they miss.

I try ranger and I didn’t feel like an archer…I try thief Archer and wasn’t feeling

But this Fighter is a pure breed archer and as a plus you can fight CQC if is needed

taking some rogue levels early let Astarion still use lockpicking and steal shit for you. I'd consider it a must honestly.

I came here to see your ideas as I have been planning one of these myself. I was thinking of going with 17 dex to start and then taking a half feat of either athlete for more jump, and getting up when prone, or resilient to get proficiency of dex saves both would give me 18 dex but something else, I might even keep dex there, +1 to hit is over rated, which is why I like to take more than just ability improvement. Then I would have sharp shooter, mobile, tough, alert or ability score, I might be able to work a lucky in there. I know at lvl 4 I will take sharp shooter and am hoping by level 6 I will have the rest fully planned, probably 6th level will be the half feat.

Any thoughts on these would be welcome, but it might come down to how the game works out, if I am rarely getting attacked in melee I might not need toughness nor mobile. If I am never surprised, nor needing to start my turn I would not get alert.

You sound like a tired Genji from Overwatch.

Something minor I did during leveling with a similar build was play 3 Rogue (Thief) + x Fighter, and then respec on level 11.

It's a really fun playstyle. You get to use all the same feats and gear, except for the weapons - dual wielding hand crossbows.

This way with the thief bonus action, you can do 3 attacks per turn (4 on level 8+), get the sneak attack "for free", and it's pretty fun to have all the mobility with the bonus-action cunning dash.

It only really becomes weaker on level 11, where the 3rd attack with bloodlust + haste makes pure fighter insane.

Thanks for sharing your version as well! I think most people default to ranger when thinking about ranged DPS, but fighter is the better single target range dps.

What's the background for the character

Why would you invest in con if you're not planing on taking meaningful

I would rather take Dex +2 at level 4, then take Sharpshooter at level 6.

So this works because finesse weapons scale off of dex?
