This video tutorial shows you how to add a new widget area to

a wordpress theme. This is not adding the widgets in admin

area but adding an entirely new widget are on any particular

place on a page or a post template.

There are mainly two things in adding a new widget area.

1) First you have to register your new widget which you can

need to copy the existing code and paste it and change the

name of the widget.

2) You need to add some php code to the template where you

want to add the new widget. In this tutorial I have shown it

template. You can follow the same procedure to add the new

widget to any other pages or any post content type.

Thank you,
Subbu.

A helpful video, I found repeating things was easier to follow and the pacing was very good. It helped me understand how to register a new widget area to place existing widgets in, such as the handy Text widget that can contain whatever HTML you want included with Wordpress.

I did notice however that you suggest copying an parameter tag to another element - bear in mind this is not valid HTML as IDs are meant to be "InDividual" and unique to 1 element on any page, but for the purposes of quick demonstration I guess it's not too bad. This would be fine for a class parameter, that is usually the case.

Great video, well explained and best video I have seen on this topic by far. I am trying to edit just one "text widget" out of 4 (want to change the header colour and position of just this widget) but its making changes to all text widgets on the same page. How can I edit just the 1 widget without effecting the other 4 widgets? I can't seem to find a unique id for each widget nor can I see the uni styling option on WordPress. Can you provide some direction? Thank you.

Hello, Subbu! It is a nice and instructive video. I am a layman practicing on making my own website. I could not find function.php in the editor section of the wordpress. Are there some variations to this.

I wanted to ask help from you. I'm using the Customizr theme, and would like to add a new widget in the header (for all pages), but it is different than you showing here. Please, can you give the way to do it.
Thank you in advance!

functions.php is change here. There is no widget in this file. I think for each widget is a separate file like footer.php, header.php. Please tell how to do in this condition?
