Appreciate your service Dr. Ed. Semper Fi. I'm a Persian Gulf War vet, currently at the age of 55 learning all I can so I can prepare well for retirement.

Dr. Ed, this was such an honest, easy to understand presentation. I hope to find you or someone like you when I need to apply for Medicare and Medigap. That's likely to be some years from now. I'm 64, plan to work till 70 at least, and my large employer is fine keeping me on company health insurance that allows me to keep adding to my health savings account. I will revisit Medicare when I'm 69 and decide whether it's time or I want to work another year or two. I'm in a happy place where I don't need to, but my health is good and I like what I do.

Thanks for the video! This video has just popped up in my feed. I have been looking into these 2 plans and depending on the company there is a $20-$50 month difference. I understand that G will always be more expensive in premiums and if it gets closed to new people it will go up faster but couldn't more doctors in the future elect to charge excess charges? Maybe they can't or as they age and retire a new set of doctors decide to hit patients with excess charges.

The "scary" part about choosing a plan is you can't just go from G to N or N to G without medical underwriting; I think that's also true in changing insurance companies to get a better premium in the same plan. I know nobody has a crystal ball to tell the future but shouldn't we assume that as we age we will be using more doctors/specialists because of our ailments? Plan G may become the new Plan F at some point, I think the question becomes what happens if doctors decide to start charging excess charges because of cuts to payments, I believe the advantage plans are having that issue right now and some doctors are leaving the plan.

I was told plan N would cost $110, I received a letter on December 7, stating the premium would cost $189.36. I had just enough time to go back to plan G. With co pays on plan N I would be paying well over $200 plus $50 for emergency room fee. I don’t know why people have to lie so much.

Thank you for this; very straightforward and understandable. I won't turn 65 for almost 2 years, but I am trying to get as much info as possible ahead of time. (I will probably hire you when the time comes!) I have several medical issues and a prescription that would cost in the thousands without insurance. My insurance company actually declined it after I'd been taking it a couple years, saying I was "doing fine without it" - of course, having it is why I was "doing fine." My doctor had to write a letter pointing out that my health declined significantly in the three months they wouldn't allow it, and they finally capitulated. But every year it has to be approved again, and I'm always nervous that they will decide to reject it again. I have heard that you can't be denied a medication on Medicare, but is this true no matter what drug plan you choose? And will the price be higher for a drug plan that does cover the very expensive meds?

To the lay person this is a lot of slang. I guess someone familiar to this will appreciate it. This just confused me.
