How prestigious is IIT?
Every year more than 15 Lakhs people fight for less than 10k seats

India has some of the brightest minds in the tech scene. Had the pleasure to work with some guys from Hyderabad and Chennai. Very knowledgable of the code stack and always willing to spend extra hours on issues.

15:06 - "Companies do not discriminate based on college". They actually do. A LOT! Maybe you have not seen it because you are from an IIT, but India has tens of thousands of colleges spewing out millions of graduates every year. Companies just straight away filter away all the lower tier resumes during screening.

1. You need a degree at a reputable College
2. No backlogs
3. Minimum CGPA
4. Connections.

It's really fascinating that Rachit didn't even mention competitive programming, I think in India competitive programming is more important that building great projects, ye sahi palti mari bhai apne firangi ke samne, hmmmm.

I thought Clem is the one, who starts speaking and never takes a pause to breathe.
Now I take my words back.

"No computer science degree" we're really gonna pretend a math degree from one of the best schools in the country played no role?

I think people should keep in mind that these guys still have really good degree in the STEM field, without a degree at all you need to go a different route, much more difficult to jump straight into FAANG because you'll basically be auto rejected, even boot camps are in the same boat now... Small startups and small business might be interested though, that's how I got my start, and networking is important too... Experience is def key for non degree holders

Companies in India judges student on the basis of CGPA no matter how good are you in your respective skills. IF you have a CGPA of 9 but you don't have any practical skills then for a company you are the one who can learn things which takes months to learn.
